TTC and Disney holiday - somebody come and talk sense to me!

Right. DH and I have decided to start TTC for our first when we're on holiday in a few weeks - we're off to Florida to do the theme parks and generally chill out and be uncultured Grin Our original plan was to start TTC when we're out there, but according to the app I use to track my cycle I'm not actually due to ovulate while we're there (though I am due a period, typical!). Basically I'm next due to ovulate around the 17th, we fly out on the 24th. Part of me thinks we should at least have a go around the 17th as we're both ready for a baby and it seems a shame to wait a month at this stage. Having said that, I'm finding very mixed thoughts on rollercoasters in very early pregnancy. My initial thought was that as I would be, at most, 1/2 weeks pregnant the baby would still be very much at the tiny bean stage and very padded, so perfectly safe. However I've heard the odd person claiming that a rollercoaster could affect implantation. I'm going round in circles as even amidst medical professionals there seems to be a split between some saying it's fine and some saying to avoid. Anyone got any thoughts on this? I'm leaning towards thinking that as most people wouldn't even know they were pregnant at 1-2 weeks there must have been many women before me who have accidentally done this!

I would checked the information for Florida regarding zika virus. I thought it was contractable out there? Could have got that wrong though!

I would, as pp said, check zika information, but, assuming that's ok, I think you're absolutely fine to go on the rollercoasters. The odds of conceiving in any given cycle aren't that high, so I think there's a very good chance you'd feel you'd missed out on a big treat for no reason if you didn't get your BFP in your first go. The miscarriage expert I'm seeing said that there's almost nothing you can do to dislodge a pregnancy that's inclined to stick at that point (and, conversely, nothing at all you can do to change it if it's not inclined to stick) - we didn't discuss rollercoasters (!), but given his attitude to alcohol I reckon he'd say to go for it!

Thanks both - fortunately the Zika risk in Florida has been lifted now, and even at its height was mostly focused around south Florida whereas we'll be in central Florida. Still good to have flagged up though as I hadn't thought of that, I'll use a good insect repellent anyway.

The point about being unlikely to conceive is what's really making me just want to go for it - it seems so unlikely that I'll fall pregnant that fast anyway that it seems a shame not to at least try.

We went to Florida last August. We held off TTC until after. It wasn't worth the risk for me personally as yes, there are many many coasters but also the heat and everything else is tiring. I wouldn't want to experience that while TTC. The weather is a little cooler in September but it's still boiling!! Like you said though, it's only a 20% chance of conception each cycle. However so many people fall pregnant first cycle. Would you be ok worry wise if you did conceive??

Enjoy your holiday. It's amazing.

I think so... I wouldn't even know until over half way through the holiday based on when AF is due by which point it'd seem silly not to just carry on. I'm less worried about the heat as native Floridians have babies all the time so that won't hurt it!
