Hi all, I've recently just turned 22 and my partner is 21. We've been together 4 years and are engaged. Weve been having talks about starting a family and I keep thinking about coming off my pill... we both work full time and both earn good incomes. I really want to have a baby and so does my partner.

Although I'm scared of what people will think! Are we both too young? Should we wait? Anyone else experienced this?

ThanksSmile

There's no right age. If you feel secure and ready then go for it. People have children at all ages it's whatever suits you. I'm sure people will disagree with me but I'm glad I'm having a family when I'm younger I feel it is the right choice for me and like you I'm stable and financially secure so why not! Good luck with it all! Xx

I agree: there is no right age.

Young parents make good parents, as do middle-aged and older parents.

Bear in mind, that while you might have a baby, you will soon have a toddler, a child, a teenager, then a young adult in your life. The baby stage passes quickly.

There is no rush.

In terms of legal security, consider getting married first - rightly or wrongly, married women have more rights should things not work out.

When these threads come up my first thought is usually: if they have to ask MN then they are too young.

How can we possibly know?

If you feel ready then go for it, start a family but be sure that you are completely ready to put yourself second for the next two decades.
