Measuring small at 8 weeks - Any positive outcome stories?

I had an 8 week scan today, baby has heart beat and looks normal but is measuring a week behind. I am worried that this means that the pregnancy outcome won't be good?

I was referred to EPU as its my 3rd pregnancy this year, the two resulted in MC, one a MMC in December and an early MC earlier this year at 7/8 weeks, hence my concern.

I am booked for another scan in 2 weeks time, in the mean time I am sat deflated and worried.

My periods are often a couple of days late, I track 28 days on calendar but frequently (not every month) they can be 2/3 days late (have spent a fortune of pregnancy tests as a result). Previous period to this pregnancy was 2 days late, clutching at straws but could this explain the size difference?

Hi,

From my understanding it's very normal for dates to be off at this very early stage - they're measuring a minuscule baby so it's hard to be accurate. You'll get a much clearer idea at the 12 week scan and will probably find that the dates are more accurate then. I know it's hard especially as you've had losses before but try to focus on what you know to be true - there is a heartbeat - and try not to worry (if at all possible!).

I had a 7+3 scan with the missed MC and saw a heartbeat though, so its not really comforting. I have another scan in two weeks and worry that the baby wont have progressed.

The sonographer said that there was nothing that I could do to improve/help the pregnancy so will have to sit it out. At least I have an interim scan booked, I haven't got to sit it out until the 12 week scan I guess.

Slightly earlier than you but i had an early scan at 6+1 & was measured at approx 5 weeks! Heart beat was seen though, and so i tried not to panic. Then had a private scan at 9+1 & was measured 8+5 which matched in exactly with my dates from ovulation. Had 12 week scan a few weeks ago at 12+4 & was brought forward by 5 days to 13+2! They really are tiny that early on & so measurements can and often are out. I hope you're outcome is a good one OP, best of luck!

Agree with Scandalicity
I had a scan at 6 weeks and was dated a week behind. Then had a scan at 7+4 and was initially dated again a week behind until I moved slightly and they suddenly dated me exactly right. Within seconds I was bumped up a week because they were able to get a better angle!
They explained that any scans before 12 weeks are very tricky to date accurately.

Thank you for the positive stories. I felt very sick earlier and take that as a good sign that hormone levels are still high. Trying not to chubder on fellow train passengers currently
