Hi, regarding the statistic that we have a 20% chance of conceiving each month...does anyone know the source of this statistic? I'm trying to work out if this is the chance if you had sex a few times that month, or if that's the statistic if you had sex almost every day that month! I know having more sex increases your chances but was just interested about what the 20% refers to! Thank you!

A figure of 20% per month probably allows for having sex an 'average' number of times, e.g. several times per month. It sounds like a very vague figure though. Surely it's higher than that for a 20 year old and lower for a 40 year old? I'd have thought age would have more of an impact than number of sexual encounters (assuming you have sex once or twice around ovulation).

Reckons it’s estimated at around 25 percent per month, if you have regular unprotected sex around thetime of ovulation. If you’re not actively trying to conceive and not planning intercourse to occur around thetime of conception, but you are having regular unprotected sex, your chances of getting pregnant drop to 11 percent per month.

I got that stat from a lecture I attended given by lord professor Robert Winston... obviously that percentage is biased towards someone younger than 33/34...
