Hi all

I wonder if anyone has any advice because I'm getting a little bit down and stressed out now with this!

I've had lots of potential symptoms including completely going of alcohol which is very strange for me, tiredness etc.

However my main concern is I started light spotting at 12dpo 3 days before AF due. AF is normally very regular and consistent so I thought great - IB! 2 days later got Bfn on 15dpo by which time AF should have been in full swing but wasn't.

I have continued to consistently spot until now which is 4 days. This hasn't turned into proper AF - very light, no need for sanitary wear and no clotting. If this goes on any longer it will be longer than my normal AF! I'm now 16dpo.

I'm so confused by this. I've never had AF visit like this before but also bfn at 15dpo. Can anyone offer any advice. Thank you.

A few thoughts:

  • You didn't ovulate last cycle (a positive opk only USUALLY results in ov, not always, as the test detects a surge in lutenising hormone that precedes ov, but does not always result in ov). So you're having an 'anovulatory bleed'.
  • Are you sure of your ov date? It may have just been later and you're spotting for a few days before af which is not hugely uncommon...
  • HCG levels aren't yet high enough to detect with a normal test, which would be a bit on the rare side if you are 16 dpo, but some people do have low hcg levels at the start.
  • Just a weird af....

Thanks for your reply @physicskate.

I'm can't be 100% sure when/if I ovulated. I track using CM and a fertility app and obviously it's not an exact science. I never normally spot before AF so to do so for 4 days would be very unusual l.

Sorry - posted too soon there. I've also had no pmt which is very unusual - just this weird spotting. It's our first month TTC so would be typical of AF to be different this month when usually so regular.

Stress can do that...

Get used to the unexpected!

I hate ttc. My cycles have become really long and irregular. I came off the copper coil (no hormones) about two years ago and seriously began ttc abut 18 months ago. Stress is a killer.
