Fertility following childhood surgery to 1 testicle

Hello, my husband had surgery as a child for one undescended testicle (the other was always normal). The surgery was completely successful and the testicle was secured in the scrotum. I have always been a bit worried about whether this could affect his fertility. He says that the dr at the time told his parents this would not be affected. I have also read that if children have this and end up having to have a testicle removed because it is damaged, providing the other testicle is healthy, fertility should not be affected to any great degree (I presume the same applies to someone whose testicle is not removed but successfully operated on). Does anyone have any experience of this or knows whether it can cause problems?

Hi! My DH had the same surgery in his early teens and was told the same about it not effecting his fertility. We have one DD and also had an mmc prior to that, both conceived easily and quickly so I'm sure it's fine! Having trouble catching the second but I'm putting that down to nothing more than bad luck!

I hope that reassures you 😊

I don't think it generally causes problems but once you've been trying six months I think you would meet the criteria for early investigation and referral because of it. Hope that helps

My DDs father has 1 testicle. The other was removed due to testicular cancer. No problem conceiving... and that was after chemo. Don't think you have anything to worry about.

DP had an operation for torsion of the testes in his teens. He was told his fertility may be affected. He now has five children! I am sure your DH will be ok.

You could just pay for a private semen analysis to make sure. It would probably cost £100-150 and you'd probably get the results the same day or not long after.
