Norethisterone

I came off my pill a couple of months ago ready to start TTC and had two fairly regular cycles.

I have recently took Norethisterone to delay my period (period due Saturday 19th August - started taking it on the previous Tuesday and stopped last Saturday night, the 19th). I assumed my period would start Monday/Tuesday but still no sign of it!

Has anyone took norethisterone recently and found it buggered up their cycles? I don't want to get my hopes up yet that I could be pregnant - we hardly DTD last month due to DH not feeling well....

Oh dear! I was so happy that I seemed to have got away with regular cycles after coming off the pill too. Thanks for the response Smile

Yes. It took a couple of cycles to get back to 'normal' length for me. Pharmacist said that after stopping norethisterone it could take up to two weeks for the delayed period to arriveConfused

Bugger! Everything I've read suggested 2-3 days. And there I was starting to get my hopes up a little Grin

I took norethisterone to delay my period for my wedding day. I had a taken it a few times before and come on 3 days after I stopped without fail. When I still hadn't come on 5 days later I thought there was something wrong - turns out I was pregnant! I had taken a test before starting to take it but it had been too early to show up. My beautiful (not quite) honeymoon dd1 is now nearly 3!

Norethisterone is basically a huge dose of progesterone so unfortunately can completely mess with your cycles.

If possible I would avoid taking where possible (depending on how seriously you are TTC- of course if you're having a fairly casual approach it doesn't matter!)

hope they return to normal for you soon!

TheseAreTheGoodOldDays · 25/08/2017 22:15

Nicae I'm hoping that's the case! Just too nervous to do a test as I think it's highly unlikely! Planning on doing one on Sunday morning if there's still no sign of AF Smile

clairettc yes we have been casual so far, this next cycle would only be my 3rd one off the pill, I only took norethisterone as AF was due to rear her ugly head on my wedding day - most unreasonable** Grin

Just thought - because Norethisterone is contraindicated for pregnancy, it might be worth booking in with your GP. I had to see a consultant and was sent for an early scan to confirm dates. I was told as I had taken it whilst I was only 3 or 4 weeks it was fine and I had no problems what so ever so there's no reason why you should either but it might be worth getting everything checked.

Thank you for the advice Nicae I will call the doctors on Tuesday and arrange an appointment Smile
