hello all!

i'm new to this place so I thought i'd post my first thread (hopefully i'm doing it right!)

I have a girl aged four and about to start school (not that i want her to!!) and we are about to start ttc baby number two.

I'm taking my last pill on Sunday and then that's us TTC! I cannot wait and it's felt like a life time of waiting for DH to be ready.

I am used to having 28 day cycles (before i took the pill and of course, on the pill)

I mainly thought i'd say hi and give a bit of my story! I'd really like to meet new people in a similar position :) come and say hi back as i'd love that.

Sophie

Hi Sophie

We're about to start TTC No 1 in a week or so. Also very excited, though a little nervous as no idea what to expect. How long did it take you to conceive your DD?

smhmumslife · 15/08/2017 17:02

hello EastDulwichWife

thank you for replying!

We were very lucky with #1. I came off of the pill around 19th June 2012 and then by the 9th of August we had a positive test so i'm pretty sure it was just the one month of trying. Of course i'm hoping it will be as easy this time around but I need to be open minded of course.

Have you worked out when you'll be most fertile? x

Hi ladies! Thought I'd join in. Took my last pill on 19 July and am awaiting AF. No idea what to expect as I've been taking it for 16 years...

Nice to hear from others in the same boat Easter Smile

EastDulwichWife · 15/08/2017 17:21

No idea! I've got the Mirena Coil in (and have done for 8 years), so I haven't had a period at all during that time. No idea when I'll ovulate or how long it'll take to return to "normal"?

Seabridge - is this your first?

MouseLove · 15/08/2017 18:04

Have you been taking folic acid. It's recommended to take this for at least 3 months before TTC. And ideally vitamin D. Other than that, good luck and have lots of fun!!

smhmumslife · 15/08/2017 19:04

Ah ladies it's nice to hear from others!
It's crazy how different we all are in regards contraception and cycles etc!
I haven't taken anything like folic acid but then I don't think I did with my first and I conceived instantly so not too worried with this at the moment! X

Yep EastDulwichWife TTC #1 so the start of a very exciting adventure!

I'm taking folic acid and vitamin D and have DH is on Wellman vitamins. I have a huge stash of ovulation tests in the bathroom that I'm dying to get started on. Really hope everything goes back to normal. AF should make an appearance this weekend but I'm fully aware this may not happen for quite some time.

smhmumslife · 15/08/2017 20:01

I guess there is no harm in taking things like that, I just know it didn't make any difference for us when ttc #1 as it happened the month I came off of the pill. I'm of course hoping the same will happen this time around but have to keep open minded and not be too disheartened if it doesn't!
I now have 5 pills remaining so I should get AF around Wednesday or Thursday next week and then I should hopefully be fertile 14 days from then! (I plan to dtd every other day in the hope that will increase our chances!)

You don't take folic acid to help you get pregnant. It's VERY important to take it to help reduce the risk of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida in your baby. It's not something that you should be ignoring.

smhmumslife · 15/08/2017 20:36

Yeah I'm sure it would be beneficial and I'm not saying I won't give them a go at some point so certainly I'm not 'ignoring' it.

Anyway, I've just bought some ovulation strips and pregnancy strips off of eBay after having a little browse online and on forums etc and now I'm getting really excited about peeing on a stick! I thought it would keep me occupied and help the time go quicker I hope!

Anyone else tried these ovulation strips?

Start taking folic acid. It's irresponsible not to be taking it as even in the very very early stages it improves the likelihood of developing life changing conditions.

smhmumslife · 15/08/2017 21:43

Yep, I've got that impression already.
My post isn't about folic acid and I don't really like being told I'm irresponsible and ignoring the fact of needing to take it.

Not a great first experience on here really which is a shame as I came here for a bit of a chat not to be grilled about my life choices...

Good luck with ttc! It took me and DH 7 months once I had my implant removed. I took folic àcid religiously for the first few months then got so depressed about not being pregnant I stopped it. Started again once I had my bfp but only really managed a few weeks as it made my morning sickness worse and I wasn't keeping it down anyway.

physicskate · 15/08/2017 21:55

I didn't say YOU were irresponsible, but not taking folic acid and ttc would be...

And I'm sorry if you feel 'grilled about your life choices.' I think you should re-read the posts. Not intended that way at all and they don't read that way. It's great that you can take supportive and well-intended constructive criticism that will help your unborn child in the (hopefully) near future!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 16/08/2017 10:34

I know someone who didn't take folic acid when she started TTC because she didn't think it would happen so soon. She has a lot of guilt over the fact her baby has spina bifida. She'll never know whether it was her 'fault' (folic acid can't prevent all spinal cord defects, but it does prevent many), but no one wants to be in that position of wondering.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 16/08/2017 10:36

I haven't taken anything like folic acid but then I don't think I did with my first and I conceived instantly so not too worried with this at the moment

And this is a really worrying level of ignorance. Didn't your midwife talk to you about folic acid with your first?

R7589 · 17/08/2017 21:46

Hi!

Hubby and I are just about to start TTC #1 aswell after getting married recently. Got implant removed in June after 5 years and 4 of being on pill so waited till AF got back to normal. Luckily I've went straight back to being "normal" 28 day cycle (sorry not into the jargon on here!)
Didn't have a clue about folic acid as I've literally got zero friends until girl at my work lost a baby due to spina bifida at 20 weeks and had to have termination as it was too risky for her and baby. Been taking them ever since.

Very surreal and scary to actually put things into motion knowing the stress, anxiety and obsession that may come out way!

Good luck to all! XxFlowers

R7589 · 17/08/2017 21:50

I should say zero friends having/had babies ....not zero friends! Blush
