Secondary infertility - doctor's visits

We've been trying unsuccessfully to conceive #2 for over a year, and I think the time has come to see a doctor, as I'm 40 and am aware my window is limited. What happens at these appointments? For the first appointment, does it make much difference what point in my cycle I'm at?

At your age you can usually be referred after six months. There is a big list of investigations to be done through the gp so all the info needed is available before you are referred. The actual infertility appointment often happen quite quickly after that. Some bloods get sent at day 1-5 and then day 21 (7 days before end of your cycle) and you need chlamydia screening in my area. Semen analysis. Some places a pelvic ultra sound too. Bloods also include thyroid function and I think rubella immunity. Can usually find your local referral blurb if you look on line. Good luck xx
