Have I had an early loss?

Hi all,

Am looking for some advice. TTC number 2 - one DS from my first pregnancy, now a year old. AF is due this Sunday (2 days) and because I'm a numpty, I poas early and am now panicking 😣.

My tests were:

Last Sunday, clear blue faint positive
Monday, clear blue slightly fainter positive
Tuesday, supermarket cheapie negative
Wednesday, no test (DH convinced me)
Thursday, morning pee, First Response negative 😣
Today, no test

I started getting nausea on Sunday and it has somewhat faded now. Also been getting weird cramps (different to AF) for the last three days.

I am really pondering what has happened and feeling stressed and confused. I have had no bleeding, not even spotting, yet I thought you can't have a loss without this. The cramping might be from implantation, but I have read that you can't get a BFP until after implantation!

More fool me for testing early, but has anyone else experienced this and what was the outcome?

Thanks for reading!

X

I've had exactly this and spoke to the doctor about it who explained that I had likely had a chemical pregnancy, I started bleeding a few days after AF was due and it was a bit heavier than normal but I think if I hadn't have tested early I wouldn't have known that I had been pregnant. Sorry you're going through this.

If you are due this Sunday that means you were getting a positive at about 7 dpo? While not impossible, it is highly irregular to get a positive test that early. Clear blue are notorious for evap lines, which can look very much like a positive (I even had a not faint evap once!!).

You will drive yourself nuts. There is only about a 20% chance of pregnancy each month, which means an extraordinary number of embryos do not implant, implant incorrectly or for some reason do not result in successful pregnancy.

This is very irregular in nature - the vast majority of animals have much higher rates than humans (except maybe pandas?)...

Like Kate I'm a bit sceptical of a 7dpo positive on Clearblue. 8dpo is generally the earliest it's possible to get any kind of positive and I don't trust the blue line/cross tests at all - I've had a "positive" when I most certainly wasn't pregnant.

You will probably get your period soon, you're not even due on yet so it's not surprising you've not bled. My personal philosophy about testing/chemicals is a) not to test before period due b) not to dwell on chemicals. I realise that may not work for everyone, but they are so, so common and really don't mean anything most of the time, so I tend to regard them as just a cycle you didn't get pregnant in. Honestly from what you said it's not really possible to know if you had a "true" positive - it would be too early for pregnancy nausea anyway and progesterone normally rises before your period and can generate "symptoms" - so I'd just try to wait for my period and move onto next month. I hope you get what you want soon though.

The most common day to implant is 9DPO. You could implant earlier but it's very rare and 7DPO is very very rare. But not impossible. I would hold off testing in future until you've missed your period. There's really no need to test beforehand. As sad as this is for me to say, even with an early loss you will have a late period. Good luck. X

Thanks so much Mouse. That's very kind of you x

So lovely to know there are people who care... no-one except my DH knows we are TTC number 2. Would love some support from family / friends but would hate the constant questions: 'any luck so far?' 😮 x

I know it's hard. I'm TTC #1 and at a year now. My family all know we are TTC as we sadly had a mmc at 10 weeks back in February. Honestly they do not mention it, maybe because they know we are struggling, but I find all the support I need here and from DH. The ladies on the conception threads are wonderful. Good luck on your journey. X

Usernamqwerty · 11/08/2017 23:16

I am so sorry to hear that, Mouse. Very best wishes to you on your journey and thanks again for taking the time to reply. DH and I just had a little cry together and chat about it - making our peace with it and looking to the future x
