Hello, hope you can help me. My Best Friend has met the chap of her dreams and they are settling down and getting wed. They would love to have a family together, however he had a vasectomy 18 years ago.

They have seen a consultant reversing the operation but they say it can't be done. BF's DH2B is prepared to undergo the treatment where the sperm is removed directly from the testes to be used in the IVF.

I was wondering/hoping that anyone out there could pass on some positive stories where this treatment has resulted in a baby, particularly those where the vasectomy took place over 20 years ago.

Thanks in advance. I just want to give her some hope that this can be possible.

Yes, me! Our DS was conceived on our first cycle of IVF/ICSI with testicular sperm retrieved then frozen then thawed. Marvellous what science can do.

My DH, slightly different reason for the testicular retrieval - serious, near-death illness, prolonged catheterisation, blah, blah .... lead to a blockage.

The sibling has been much more illusive - 3 chemical pgs and one miscarriage.

So, it can and does happen.

Good luck to your friend.

Yes! have a good friend whose DP underwent reversal. She had not just 1 but 2 babies in close succession!! got pg very quickly, and second time was accidently! oops. needless to say he's now had the procedure done for the second time(!) incidently she was 40 when he first had the vasectomy reversed.
