Hi all

As AF arrived today i wanted to give the clear blue sticks a go along side the cheapy OPKs.

I have a few questions before I trudge off to boots to buy them!

Are they easy to use?
Are there two different types?
Do you start using them when you think you're in your fertile window?
Does the smiley face mean that it's your fertile window?

As you can see I'm a newb to them and have only picked up a few things from people's posts.

I'll of course read the instructions but just wanted to check first!

Any help or tips would be great! X

Hi, cant answer all of those but I've find the sperm meets egg plan particularly useful I knowing when to use opks and what to do next. Google it or see spermmeetseggplan.com

Good luck!

Sorry for all the typos this phone is dreadful.

Very easy to use. I find them much easier than the cheapo ones (which made me a bit obsessed and stressed about the whole process).
I use the CB OPKs along side the Ovia app so that I can record my fertile week each month and it can predict it for the month ahead.

Yes there are two different types of clear blue sticks. I prefer the one with the flashing smiley faces; this gives you a better indication of your fertile window. Then at your peak it will show a static face - which is an induction that ovulation is about to happen over the next 12 - 36 hours. The other version only shows a static face when you hit your peak (so no flashing faces).

I start using them a week before I think I ovulate and more often than not I start getting the flashing face within a day or two. I then use them every other day thereafter and usually I manage to catch the static face but even if I don't, it's ok because I just make sure I have sex every day or every other day for 7 - 10 days anyway.

*indication (not induction!)

I did exactly what you are planning, the month just gone. I'm afraid the digitals were a complete waste of money for me. I didn't get a single smiley face flashing or otherwise. However I did just get my bfp, so something worked. Of course that is just my experience with them.

They are easy to use, I did seem to get a lot of errors with them though.
They tell you when to start using them in the pack based on your cycle length. The clear blue digital ones give you a flashing smiley oh fertile days and a static smiley on the day you ovulate.

We used the SMEP this month, definitely giving that a thumbs up.

Good luck.

Just another thing ....definitely don't buy them from amazon. I received loads of error messages on the ones I bought from Amazon, but all the ones I've ever bought from a reputable shop have always been fine.

I used the clear blue Advanced Dual Hormone Digital Ovulation tests (purple ones) after they were recommended to me by my hospital when going through ovulation induction cycles. I found them really helpful as they showed that although I was building upto ovulation and showing a smiley face, they also confirmed after years of trying their conceive naturally that I wasn't actually ovulating at all as I never "peaked" and needed injections to force it. The results tallied with lots of scans I was having simultaneously so I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I used them when we were trying for DS. Could have been sheer luck but I got pregnant immediately. We used the cheaper Clear Blue ones. Forgotten what they're called. I think they're purple.

I've lost an ovary since so may have a harder time this time round and will definitely use them again.

My only criticism is that a winking face would be much more appropriate Wink
