Hi I am reasonably new to all this so not completely sure of all the abbreviations but have been lurking on here for a couple of months so think iv got most of it. I came off the pill in march to start ttc and started using opk's last month, just internet cheapies. Last month I totally missed the surge however this month I got a very clear positive, much darker than the control line, on CD 12, I tested the next day and it was still positive although only just as dark as the control. I have tested every day since and the line was getting lighter as I would have expected however when I tested today it seemed to be darker again. Is this normal? I don't take my temperature but did start getting ovulation pains a day or so before the positive Opk which have since stopped so I am almost positive I ovulated already so wouldn't expect the opk's to start getting darker again.

i think the advice is stop testing when you get your positive. you just confuse yourself otherwise.

i was using internet cheapies and found them really confusing but found the clearblue digital one worth the money.
i only used 5 test sticks this month and got a clear static smiley on cd15. it tells you then to stop testing and displays the static smiley for 48 hours - the estimated time of your ovulation.

i think thats sensible. i did one cheapy the day i got the static just to check....it tallied.

You generally ovulate about two weeks before af. So ov on cd 13 (day after positive opk) is reckon you have about 27 day cycles??

Thank you for both responses. Yeah I know I should stop testing but the last 2 months IV had ovulation pains on CD 16 so thought that was my ovulation day in previous months so was testing just to see what they would show so its kind of worried me that I might have another positive opk because if I do ovulate on CD 16 then I thinks that's too late because my cycles have mostly been 25/26 days with only one 28 day cycle. So does that not mean my last phase of the cycle is too short?

the lutel phase is generlly around 14 days no mtter how long yourcycle - so you will get your period around 14 days after you ovulate - whenever that is.
ome women DO have a short luteal phase however - id recommend the clear blue to try so you can clearly pinpoint ovulation (ish)

I would also recommend Clearblue OPKs, very simple to use and they are far more sensitive. I use the advanced digital ones and have got pregnant twice on them with irregular cycles and a shorter and variable luteal phase than 14 days (10-12 days).
