Ovulation a week before period?

Is it possible to ovulate a week before your expected period? I have a very irregular cycle but according to ovulation tests am ovulating today but was roughly expecting to start my period in a week. Help!

If you're only just ovulating you will probably find that your period will be later too

Thanks! I find it so hard to tell with my cycles being so irregular! Driving me crazy!

Do you know when you ovulated last month? If you do you can count the number of days from ovulation to period and it will almost certainly be the same this month give or take a couple of days

Hi chloe, if you have a short luteal phase it is possible to ovulate a week before your period. It may be your period will be delayed, but if not, check back here for advice on what to do about lengthening the time between ovulation and your period x

Do you know why your periods are irregular? If it's because of PCOS - a very common problem that causes irregular periods due to lack of ovulation- those ovulation kits don't work. In which case what they're saying won't help much.

If you're irregular then there's no reason you aren't ovulating now and you period would then be due in approximately 2 weeks.

Thanks McTufty, I’ve had really irregular cycles since coming off the pill at the end of last year and this is the first month I’ve really started properly using ovulation tests. My last period started on 30 June and according to the Ovia app I’ve been using for last few months, my next expected period is due at the end of this week/at the weekend – so could even be less than a week! Today is the first day I got a static smiley face and two positives on the cheaper simple Boots ovulation sticks. I’m worried that I took an allergy tablet last night and it might have affected the results – Phenergan can cause false positive pregnancy tests but not sure if it would affect ovulation tests too? Also, have tested several times today and still reading positive so hopefully Phenergan is out of my system by now?

Fingers crossed it's the same for me mrscropley!

Thanks WorkingBling - I've been to the GP to have bloodtests and they have ruled out PCOS so I think it's just my body taking some time to adjust. Just hoped and thought that by now I would be back to regular given I had no troubles before going on the pill...although that was around 14 years ago now!
