Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

So how do you exactly tell your OH/DH that tonight is the night and he needs to erm perform?

I want to keep this light hearted if possible. On here we openly discuss mucous, peeing on various sticks and when we have DTD.

However how open are you with your partners that you kinda need his sperm in this time certain time frame.

I was trying to discuss this with OH and he is very much a " that is womens stuff " kinda guy- and pushes it to one side. He does kind of understand cycles- in cows- hes a farmer-when the cows tails go up they are ovulating!!! Yes this was a discussion in bed last night!!

If anyone watched Sex and the City I also often have the scene in my head when Charlotte was trying with Trey and her watch beeps and shes exclaims "I'm ovulating" I am fearful this will come out of my mouth at some point in a Charlotte type voice- hopefully not in his mothers garden though!!!

Anyway just thought may be fun to share a few stories and also maybe some advice to those who are not sure how to raise the subject.

Have also included small photo/ quote thing sent to me today from a friend- we have had a few friends recently announce pregnancys which were a surprise etc and this just made me giggle.

"Come and have sex, it's time to put a baby in me".

We're old fashioned romantics, us.

I just kept DH informed as the ovulation tests got darker. Ooh two lines today, but be getting near. Ooh they're the same darkness today! Or do these match, what do you think? So we were both on same page.

Must not but

I just told my husband, he's the only boy and has three sisters so he's well aware of monthly cycles! What made me laugh is how he adamantly refused to believe that there is such a short window in which you can conceive!

BertieBotts · 20/07/2017 06:34

'I'm fertile' eyebrow raise.

But, um, usually I just initiate like normal? It's very rare he says no tbh. I'm not worried about hitting certain exact days, that's not necessary. As long as you dtd at least a couple of times in the fertile window you're good.

Sluttybartfast · 20/07/2017 06:48

We know when I'm fertile even when I'm not trying because it makes me super horny. We refer to it as 'pawing season'. He roughly knows my cycle anyway so it just isn't a big deal - i initiate or he initiates. Occasionally I tell him when 'peak paw' is likely to occur just to make sure he's not massively overcommitted that week or something.

MotherofBoy · 20/07/2017 07:37

I don't! I did once or twice and it really put him off. Now I just get on with it and use old fashioned charm haha. Sometimes I tell him the next day or so afterwards but mostly just keep quiet

Velocity · 20/07/2017 07:45

Same approach as @MotherofBoy, DH would just get stressed if I told him. This way he just got lucky!

After 18 months of TTC it went something like this

Me - "There's a smiley face"
DH - "again?"
Me - "Yea I know. Urgh"
DH - "hop on then"

The months sucked the life out of us! Thankfully it worked and I'm now 19 weeks pregnant. So keep going!

Rainontheflowers · 20/07/2017 07:54

I knew that I was ovulating, but didn't tell dh as apparently "we aren't trying for a baby, we just aren't preventing it", so I thought it might freak him out a bit. Thankfully I got pregnant in the first month!
