Eating as if you are pregnant when ttc?

Just wondering how many of you avoid the things you are meant not to eat/drink when you are pregnant while ttc? I normally eat quite healthily anyway, but have cut right back on caffeine, and am avoiding the cheeses you're not meant to eat etc. However we've only been ttc for 2 months and am well aware this could take years! Already craving red wine, blue cheese, etc etc! On one hand I think it might be too hard to follow, but on the other hand I feel like maybe being "good" will somehow help us conceive?! (I know, it's not logical!).
What does everyone else do? I normally don't drink all that much, but now that I'm saying I "can't" I'm fantastising about big glasses of wine!!

All I did was cut right down on alcoholic drinks (and stopped completely between fertile time and testing).
Only did that once though (the complete stop - before had just carried on cutting down) and that was the time it worked. I know it was a coincidence, but it did make me feel as though I was doing everything right.
Apart from that, and taking folic acid, I didn't do anything differently until I was definitely pregnant.
Good luck ttc!

I am taking a multi-vit,and have cut down on caffeine a bit (i drink far too much coffee anyway).i dont touch alcohol from fertile time-testing/period time, just incase, but apart from that i live normally and even have a couple of glasses of wine before fertile point.oh and i have quit smoking (8 weeks )

Maybe you should have a glass if you fancy it?

"i dont touch alcohol from fertile time-testing/period time"
that's what I was trying to say - couldn't get the words right!!

I don't think it's worth putting your life on hold while ttc so whilst I cut down on alcohol in the second half of my cycles, I don't change my eating habits.

An embryo doesn't actually share your bloodstream until 4 weeks after conception anyway, so you're unlikely to do any major harm before then

I say as long as you're not drinking booze excessively, then you should enjoy your food & drink while you can as once you get that BFP, all sorts of restrictions will come into play!

Thanks all, I was hoping you would say something like that, nice to get reassurance. I forgot to say I am taking pregnacare tablets, and have been for a few months now, so I think that is the most important thing at this stage.
And well done scorpio1 to stopping smoking, I did that a couple of years ago, it is NOT fun, wishing you all the best!

I think the most important thing is folic acid and multivit doesn't hurt. Zinc makes the little boys and girls faster (so you should give it to your dp!!) and is good for women as well (don't know why exactly anymore). I don't think you have to cut back on so many things you like, it's soon enough once you have the bfp. Also, it might help you relax while you ttc. Everything you do before the bfp is supposed not to hurt the little beanie, so I hadd the odd glass of wine (knew I would not be drinking during pg and bf for a loooong time) and carpaccio and things like that. Wish you good luck and a bfp soon!!

Do make sure that any multi-vit you take does not include vitamin A as it is toxic to embryo.
