AF has returned, time to start TTC while still bfing

So ds is 19 mo and is proving hard to wean as he doesn't eat much, but finally the old AF has returned this week so I feel it is reasonable to seriously try for no. 2.

I just wondered, do periods generally go straight back to being regular or can it take a while for a steady 28 day cycle to return? And if ds ups his milk intake are they likely to stop again? I feel it's a bit precarious as we had a couple of days where he went literally morning to night without milk, but since then has been really whiny and wanting to feed during the day. Worried this period will be a one off.

Anyway, would love to hear of experiences or other knowledgeable types and anyone else starting TTC whilst bfing too. Smile

My periods came back when my EBF baby was 4 months old and they immediately returned to their normal cycle.

When we decided to TTC #2 I was still breastfeeding DS and to cut a long story short I couldn't actually conceive until I'd stopped breast feeding altogether despite having regular periods.

Good luck in your journey and I hope you are one of those women who are able to conceive whilst breast feeding with no problems Flowers

My periods came back at 9.5 months and have been regular ever since although I continue to feed. My fertility's been fine - conceived straight away on starting to try.

Ah ok, as I suspected. Sorry to hear it took longer than you hoped writer. Cake

A range of experiences and possibilities. Thanks both. I might crack open the ovulation strips in a week or two to get an idea if that side is back up and running.

No problem - Baby Boy number 2 is due in 5 weeks so all's well that ends well Smile

I think if periods come back earlier they are likely to be anovulatory (sp? ie, not actually ovulating) but if they take a while you're more likely to be fertile right away. Mine came back after 19months and I fell pregnant on the second cycle.

Forgot to say, still bf at that point too.

Good luck with last weeks of pregnancy writer :) so glad it worked out.

That's really interesting secret, what a mine of mysteries the body is. It's such an individual thing isn't it. I've really enjoyed not menstruating, while simultaneously wishing we could get on with no.2. Early return of menstruation without ovulation is like the worst of both worlds if you want more babies (but ok if not I suppose).

I think if you've been bf for some time you're more likely to be ovulating. If periods come back earlier when you still have a little baby, you're less likely to ovulating.

Mine didn't come back til I stopped feeding completely (ds was 9 months). I got pregnant that cycle Shock
