Vitamin A - advice please!

Hi everyone! Advice please.

I have been taking folic acid (for a couple of months) & now am also taking general multi-vits (for a couple of weeks) as part of my TTC plan! ☺️ I am on Cycle 2!

BUT - I have just looked at the label whilst taking my multi vits & it says do no take if you are pregnant or trying to concieve. I then googled this & VIT A can 'harm your unborn child'.

How did I not know this? Can anyone recommend what they have been taking supplement wise - thanks so much! X

Pregnacare and Seven Seas both do specific TTC multivitamins with right amount of folic acid, all the stuff you need and no vitamin A. You can get them in the supermarket.

helenfagain · 13/07/2017 22:21

Seven seas ones are much cheaper and I found pregnacare made me feel a bit sick!

I just take the Wilko pregnancy supplement. It doesn't have to specifically be a conception supplement you take.

As long as your diet is alright, all you need to be taking is folic acid. I also took vitamin D, but you don't need this until you're pregnant.

Oh fab, thanks! Will just stick to the folic acid & scrap the multi-vits!

It's the vitamin A in liver which is the reason that pate is a banned food while pregnant (as well as liver on its own).

Spam88 · 14/07/2017 21:52

NoWord I think it's the listeria risk that's why it's recommended to avoid pate? Should avoid all pate, including vegetable ones, so it's not just the liver that's the issue.

I used seven seas perfect 7 it's a multi vitamin that doesn't have a in it ! Got pregnant second month!

My contraceptive nurse told me absolutely no added Vitamin A to my pre-natal vitamins too and to just focus on folic acid and vitamin d (I'm Vitamin d deficient anyway).

MouseLove · 19/07/2017 12:49

Nhs recommends ONLY folic acid and vitamin d. Don't waste your money with a pregnancy or TTC vitamin as you really don't need them with a balanced diet. Some even contain vits that have links with miscarriage which is why I completely stopped everything after my mmc. Not worth the risk. X

I'm using the Superdrug folic acid & Vitamin D tablets. One tablet a day, 60 in a bottle for £2.99.

Thanks everyone for your advice! Xx
