Zika Virus

My husband and I returned three weeks ago from Mexico where there is an outbreak in the Zika Virus.
As far as I am aware, neither of us contracted the virus but obviously can not be completely sure as apparently you can also have no symptoms at all.
We are both very keen to start TTC but the advise is that male travelers should wait 6 months before unprotected sex!
Has anyone paid for any Zika tests or spoken to their GP about this?

My GP advised waiting 6 months after visiting Mexico. We didn't look into private tests as we didn't mind waiting. You can still carry the virus even without symptoms.

We cancelled our Mexico holiday because of this. Did you not look in to it before you went? We were also advised by GP to wait 6 months. Didn't want to do that so took the hit and lost our holiday deposit.

It's important you take medical advice seriously. I don't think it's worth the risk. Wait the 6 months. It's not long to wait. We waited after our holiday to Florida where there was no outbreak but risk.

Wait six months. The virus can lurk in semen for quite a while and being asymptomatic doesn't mean you weren't infected.
Not worth the risks, just wait.

Just wait 6 months. If you were that keen on starting to ttc straight away you wouldn't have gone to Mexico!

We are waiting to TTC having been to a zika country. The tests are about £400 and say they don't give you a definitive answer, only a likely indication, so we didn't bother. Instead I'm using the time to let my body get used to not being on the pill and trying to learn my cycle, so we have a rough idea when we do start TTC.
