early signs of pregnancy

Hi,
I'm new to this thread but was wondering whether anyone knows of any early (i.e. pre-pregnancy test) signs of pregnancy? I know I just have to wait to know for sure but I've got at least a week to go and it's driving me insane. Even old wives tales will do - at least it will entertain me while I wait!
Thanks

try not to torture yourself.
However, I get little spider naevi on my upper chest wall(small dilated blood vessels) before period due(normally don't have any)

MrsMcJnr · 22/03/2007 15:50

Well here are a few that some have/ others don't:

wind
need to pee more
tiredness
nasea
bleeding gums
vivid dreams
tender boobs
visible veins on boobs
cramps without bleeding
spotting at odd times in your cycle
visible ducts on nipples
strong sense of smell
likes/dislikes of food/drink

Have you looked at the website Two Week Wait, it turns you into a complete symptom spotter

Hope you fall soon!

skidaddle · 22/03/2007 16:41

Thank you - I'm feeling bloated and tired but that's about it. Oh and a bit emotional but that's probably because I'm worrying about whether I'm pregnant!
God, every day is like a decade, isn't it? Thanks for the website MrsMcJnr - that should make me even more compulsive

The cycle I got my BFP, I had none of these symptoms apart from spotting that I had never had before from 3dpo - 11dpo. I also had no "feeling" that I was pregnant. Maybe this is because my pregnancy was doomed as I went on to have a MC at 10 weeks .

fionap19 · 22/03/2007 17:55

Hi,
I knew in advance, got bloating, emotionsl and tearful, slightly sicky, headaches, cramps...like a period with cramps is on the way. boobs swelled too and ached!
Good luck to you!

skidaddle · 23/03/2007 08:35

I'm really sorry to hear about your miscarriage, MrsMcJr - are you still trying to conceive? BTW what does dpo mean?

Thanks fionap19; I felt very inexplicably teary last night as well as bloated and a headache today so fingers crossed...

Thanks we are TTC again but my body seems to still be in recovery (I guess I should give it a chance, the MC was only between 2 &3 weeks ago) I?ve not ovulated yet even though we?ve been putting in the effort. ?DPO? means ?days post ovulation? i.e the number of days between the day you ovulate and your period arriving.

I remembered something else last night too, I had a bad stomach quite a lot, some people complain of constipation in early pg but I was the opposite, all the hormones playing havoc!

Good luck to you! When are you planning to test?

Ariana23 · 23/03/2007 12:00

Hey I know the feeling!!! Was really hoping to be pregnant last month but no luck... Am in conception stages now so 2 week wait for me!! You have to let us know what happens!!! This week will be sooo long for u but just keep urself busy and hopfully it'll fly by!!

MrsMar · 23/03/2007 12:34

The tww is horrendous, try not to look too hard for symptoms, because I know from my own experience that I ended up imagining half my "symptoms". Apparently the week after you ov there is a progesterone surge just in case you do get pg, this causes pregnancy symptoms (sore boobs, tiredness, nausea etc) which if you are pg carry on, but if you're not, fade just before af arrives as progesterone levels drop off. So I would be wary of anything you might think of as traditional pregnancy symptoms, as it could just be the progesterone surge.

Having said that, the first sign (which in hindsight I now know to have been the start of my pregnancy) were really strong implantation pains, 4 dpo, right bang in the centre so not to be confused with ov pains. The next thing, which again with hindsight I think are connected to pregnancy, was I had terrible constipation the week before af was due, which is really unusual for me. I guess everyone's different though. It was soooo scary on the day af was due, then the day after, then the day after. You just don't dare to hope.....

Good luck ttc xx

fruitful · 23/03/2007 14:18

Well, I normally get a lot of these symptoms when AF is due. Both times when I've been pg, I haven't had any of these symptoms. I've just felt great.

MrsMcJnr · 23/03/2007 14:27

Ariana enjoy the rest in the 2ww hope this is your lucky cycle!

MrsMar I know what you mean about the knicker spotting obsession!

skidaddle · 23/03/2007 14:36

MrsMar, you are so right - I think i am completely imagining myself to have symptoms, and even if they are real, they are probably just a result of the progesterone surge

This is like a whole new world I'm entering into - i had no idea there were so many websites and so many things to learn -I feel so naive compared to all you experts!!

Ariana and MrsMcJnr, when are you testing? I think I will test 2nd April although my periods are so irregular it's hard to know. Good luck to you both!

skidaddle - it's agonising isn't it?? one way to guarantee a successful result is to organise something you can't possibly do pregnant, enter the marathon or book a really inappropriate holiday, clubbing somewhere distant and exotic or scuba diving in the maldives! Murphy's law says you'll get pregnant and will have to rearrange your whole life! I did just that (not intentionally), booked a skiing holiday (going on sunday, will be 14+4 then, going to be extra cautious) and applied for a job I couldn't possibly do pregnant (too physically demanding) which i duly got!!! Had some awkward explaining to do at work, but they were v kind and let me start after my maternity leave. Why not take up wing walking or parachuting?

MrsMcJnr · 23/03/2007 16:08

In some ways I wish I could swop the knowledge for the innocence I had when I started TTC though, at first it?s exciting and romantic and all the things it should be but as time goes on, it becomes exhausting physically and emotionally and an obsession. It was for me anyway . I?ll be testing tomorrow but not for the right reasons I need to see a negative on a test to know that all the pg hormones have gone before I can think about testing for the right reasons again. To be honest with you, in 8 cycles of trying, I only took about 3 tests. That was because I learnt that my period always arrived 10-11 days after OV and if I got beyond that I tested but never before. I think that policy probably saved me quite a lot of money!

Hello Beansprout

Anniemac ? best of luck with staying sane through TTC, I suspect I?ll be worse this time round (that said I have learnt a few things from last time round!)

skidaddle · 23/03/2007 17:00

MrsMar - great idea - we are in fact kind of doing that already in that if I am not pregnant we will get married in India in November (family is from there) and if I am pregnant we'll get married here. I do half wonder if dp likes the idea of a trip to India more than a new baby

Good luck tomorrow MrsMcJnr - isn't there something about being more fertile after having been preg? Not sure if that is right but good luck anyway.

I have now convinced myself that I am not pregnant and I will try to believe it because otherwise I just will not be able to bear seeing a negative test . Jesus Christ this is the first month we've even tried and look at the state of me, how am I going to be in 6 months or more?

Sorry MrsMar crossed with you! Totally agree, I start training for the vodka swigging world cup tomorrow!

Thanks Skidaddle, ?they? do say that, but it?s not backed up really but we?ll see! The wedding sounds lovely, I?m sure you?ll love it wherever you are Welcome to the TTC roller coaster! the upside is that you?ll get lots of exercise , you?ll meet lots of lovely ladies on here who you?ll miss when you go on holiday and you?ll know the real meaning of hope and that you really do want what you think you do!
