I'm getting married soon (2 1/2 weeks!) And we'd like to have kids. But we're not sure when to start TTC. How long does it usually take at our age? Do we wit and enjoy married life for 6 months or so or start straight away?

Do you have an idea how many kids you would like and preferred age gaps? When I got married I wanted a bit of just us time first. Some people are lucky & it happens straightaway others it takes a fair bit longer. You are still young so have plenty of time. Are you honeymooning anywhere where there is a risk of the Zika virus? I think you're advised to wait 6 months before ttc if so. Good luck with your wedding!

Have you had some 'you' time and lived together already? Travelled etc? If you have, I'd get started. It might happen immediately or taken a long time and you just can't tell! Also the odds on a healthy pregnancy for you and any baby are higher at closer to 30 than closer to 40.....which isn't to say plenty of women don't have healthy babies at an older age but if you have the choice, it makes sense to stack the odds in your favour!

Sorry misread the 6 months!! Really won't make much difference! Do what you both want!

Thanks all! Yeah we've been together 3 years, living together for 1 1/2 (friends for 10 years). We'd like 2 or 3 kids. 18 months/ 2 year gap between?

Honeymoon is a few nights in Rome, though we'd like a pre-baby holiday to Japan late this year/ early next

I would say if you want 3 then probably better to start sooner rather than later just in case it takes a while as you don't want to then regret waiting! Fertility starts to decline from 35 though plenty of people are having babies in their late thirties/early forties. Good luck!

Thanks all :)
