Short luteal phase

Hi! Anyone else had problems with a short luteal phase? I used to have a 28 day cycle but the last few months it's shortened to 22-24 days with AF only around 8 days after Ov.
I'm going to go to the docs but wondered if anyone else had this? I'm a bit under weight but not majorly so, I don't do crazy amounts of exercise so I can't think what might be going on? It's all very depressing.
Anyone have any experiences to share? :-)

Hi Hazel, bit of a late reply but if it helps at all, I had a LP that was on the short side (9/10 days in a 28/29-day cycle) after coming off the Cerazette mini-pill. I feel like it took my system a good 7 months to get back to normal after coming off the mini-pill (though the practice nurse assured me I'd be fertile as soon as I came off it...) and I won't be going back on it until I'm done having kids.

I tried a low dose of agnus castus which I think helped regulate my cycle, but what I think made a difference for me was taking a 50mg vitamin B complex. Could be coincidence of course, but I got pregnant within a month of taking it and I'm 15 weeks now. I also took progesterone supplements during my first trimester because I was worried that my short LP could be due to low progesterone.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Thank you! I started taking the b vitamins and also got pregnant the next month!! :-)
Hopefully it could help someone else...
Congratulations to you!

Hi both I have this problem my LP is about 9 days where do you get the b vitamins from and are they safe to take?

Wow ladies I'm currently a year into my TTC journey and after having a mmc at 10 weeks in February I've now settled into a 25 day cycle with spotting on day 24. I think my luteal phase is 8 days, but I'm super tracking everything this cycle to confirm. I also medicate for my hyperthyroid.

I am so worried this will never happen for us. This is TTC#1 and I'm 34 in November.

Can I please ask what vitamins you took as a whole? I am currently taking vitamin D & folic acid and nothing else. I was going to start taking vitamin c and introduce more leafy veg and walnuts into my diet this cycle (cd3 today) but I wasn't sure about B vitamins as I've heard conflicting stuff.

Your stories give me so much hope when mine is slowly running out. Thank you. X

I started taking vitamin B6 as part of a TTC vitamin supplement and also omega 3 and coQ10.
I stopped taking the coQ10 after my bfp. I don't know if they helped but it was certainly a coincidence as I'd been TTC for six months and I'm 37.

I'm currently living abroad so I can't help you with where to get them but it was just a regular TTC multi vitamin :-)

I'm on B6 and 750mg vitamin C for my luteal phase. You can get the B6 from holland and Barrett (or at least that's where I got mine from!)

Good luck everyone!

MouseLove · 11/08/2017 16:52

Hey McTufty, I've read you're not meant to take b6 alone but as part of a complex as it can leave you unbalanced?

I'm adding vitamin c to my roster tonight, may add a b complex too but most have folic acid in them and I'm not 100% what I'm actually doing. 😂

Betsyboo87 · 11/08/2017 16:57

Hey Mouse I take b complex for my pre af spotting which I think makes my lp short. B complex includes b9 which is folate and this is the natural form of folic acid (folic is a sythetic). Therefore you don't necessarily need to take folic as well. Not sure if there are any issues with taking both? Someone cleverer than me may be along with that answer though.

Betsyboo87 · 11/08/2017 16:57

I meant the spotting makes my lp short not the complex....

MouseLove · 11/08/2017 21:26

Thanks Betsy. I should probably be on a high dose folic acid anyways so I may talk through this with my gp and see what he says.

saritah · 14/08/2017 05:34

Congratulations to you too Hazel! Smile

Mouse if you've tried other vits I'd recommend giving a B complex a go (as long as it would be safe to take alongside your medication?). As I understand it the B vitamins work together, so a complex is more effective than B6 on its own. I also live abroad but read up on these threads and bought it from Amazon. You can always start with a low dose and build up, but just take care as very high doses (a lot of sources say 100mg) can be harmful. Don't give up hope – I know how slowly the weeks go by when you're worrying about LP and it makes it so much more stressful. Really hope it happens for you soon x
