Antihistamines and TTC?

I've read varying information about taking antihistamines whilst TTC. Someone told me that antihistamines 'dry you out' so makes it harder to conceive. Other people told me it makes no difference. I'm really struggling with hayfever and get bitten quite bad so need antihistamines to bring the swelling done. I don't know what to do for the best?

I remember when I was struggling to conceive I was paranoid about antihistamines as they do dry you out that is fact. To counter act it I used to drink cough medicine that contained guafenisine (sp?) this definitely did its job as I had to wear panty liners most days.

It's a tough one isn't it? Good luck

I also suffer terribly sorry I've got myself a nasal spray. Tablets do dry me out and it's awful. I try not to take anything internal anymore but now I have beckonase spray and eye drops.

Mrsjones17 · 19/06/2017 09:43

Are the sprays and eye drops safe to use?

@bumwad so cough medicine is safe?? Should I take cough medicine tonight as I caved and took antihistamines this morning? I'm due to ovulate tomorrow ish? So much conflicting information!

Why wouldn't cough medicine be safe? Go for it!

They're not internal so I presume so. Seeing docs on Wednesday so will confirm.

I checked with my fertility doctor and they recommended coming off all antihistamines before TTC as it can affect some women.
