So me and DH have been together for 8 years, married for half a year. We have a lovely house, settled in jobs and have both always agreed that we want children.

I always just expected that at this stage we could just stop using contraception and see what happens. DH had been right on track with this as well until I bought the conversation up about 2 months ago, and he now says he doesn't feel ready.

I'm not sure what more we can do to be ready and I'm trying to be patient, but I'm finding it a bit upsetting and frustrating.

Have any others been in the same situation?

What makes him feel unready? You should have a really open conversation. Remember pregnancy lasts 9 months, so there is time to adjust to the idea.

My dh kicks himself now that we waited so long. It's now been over a year and we still aren't pregnant. So it usually takes a lot longer than 9 months before a bundle of joy arrives!

Yeah we've had quite a few conversations about it now to try and clear the air and work out what it is that we need to do to make him more comfortable, but he says he doesn't know. He says that he knows he wants children but I think he's worried about the life change.
I've also explained that its unlikely that we'll be pregnant first try, but he insists that we will (I believe that is some very wishful thinking! And also him being a bit nervous).
I don't want to push tge subject too much, but also I don't want to be waiting another year or more!

Out of interest how old are you are you both? As @physicskate says it may well take longer than you think.

I'm 26 and Dh is 32, so I guess no need to be stressing too much. But equally, we always talked of two and I don't want to make things more difficult than they need to be by waiting. I completly understand that it can take up to a year (or more) ... but a few of our friends concieved immediatly and I think he thinks thats the norm...

That sounds really tough @4Bee. Do you have any reason to be concerned about your fertility? Hopefully things will happen really quickly for you but me and my partner decided to try now because we know he may have a fertility issue, and we want a couple of children like you.
