Hi guys,

So, I have something coming up next week where everyone will be drinking and wanted to have 1 drink on the wednesday. Genuinely just 1 very small fruit cider.
I was wondering what you think? Is it a bad idea or should I not worry too much?

Are you pregnant?

CherriesInTheSnow · 02/06/2017 21:29

If you are not pregnant yet, there's no worry :)

The placenta doesn't start functioning until a few weeks in (will look this up to fact check as I don't want to misinform you) so initially there is nothing being transferred from you to the egg.

I was drinking while ttc. I also drank during my pregnancy. My baby was perfectly fine.

WineAndTiramisu · 02/06/2017 21:56

Not sure I could cope with not drinking during TTC... (Partially a joke before I'm asked if I'm an alcoholic!)

emvy · 02/06/2017 21:57

I wouldn't have thought that one drink would do any harm. I tend to have a drink every now and then in the tww if I fancy it. A friend of mine fell pregnant unexpectedly with her two children, drunk for the first few months not realising, and they're both absolutely fine. So really, I doubt one drink if you fancy it is going to be a problem Smile

I'm not pregnant, just ttc! Thanks guys, that makes me feel much better.
I don't want to worry that I'm doing any damage to a potential baby but at the same time, I don't think one cider is a huge deal!
It's nice to know that other people drink in the tww and everything is fine :)

I got drunk as a skunk a couple of days before a positive pregnancy test... DS now 2 and a half. So far he doesn't seem to have been affected by it...

Thingymaboob · 03/06/2017 08:30

I drank right up until I got my BFP. Placenta isn't working yet. Enjoy!

Mrstobe90 · 03/06/2017 10:05

Thanks guys! I'm not planning on getting drunk just in case, but I really want to have a drink. We're going to a music festival for 5 days and I don't think that sitting in a campsite with all my friends that I haven't seen for a year will be possible without a cider in my hand lol

A music festival... that'll be so tough to not drink... but I wouldn't worry about having a unit or two.

Thingymaboob · 03/06/2017 12:11

My friend didn't find out she was pregnant until she was 6-7 weeks. It was a shock. Her and her DP had gotten so hammered one night at a birthday party they'd forgotten they had unprotected sex. At 5 weeks it was New Year's Eve and she was hammered! Not just booze either. Her son is 2, in the 90th percentile for his age and he's absolutely fine. You don't even know if you're pregnant. Enjoy yourself while you can! I drank socially until I knew then stopped immediately.

FrowningFlamingo · 03/06/2017 16:14

What thingymaboob said.
I'm avoiding going out on a massive bender obviously. But not being completely abstinent either. Nursing one glass when out with friends rather than getting involved with rounds..,

Mrstobe90 · 03/06/2017 16:19

Fantastic :) I'll definitely have 1 while I'm away then :)
