Hi,

I came off birth control 7 months ago & my partner & I started trying for a baby 5 months ago. So far nothing. 3 girls from work have all conceived in this time ( 1 was on the same birth control as me & fell pregnant while taking it). All 21 or younger & have only been with their partners for roughly 2 years or less. Myself & him are 26/27 & have been together for almost 5 years. Anyone know why this is happening? I'm really down. I'll be late by a week take a test & my period will come the next day.

I know it's really upsetting every month when you don't get pregnancy. Even if you time things perfectly you only have around a 20% chance every month. Are you using ovulation tests?

Chinnygirl · 10/05/2017 13:45

Trying to conceive for 12 months or less is normal. After 12 months you can be referred for fertility checks. It takes a lot of couples more than a few months to conceive.

Hi, I use a period app on my phone. We've tried during ovulation, after, before.

It's so upsetting as we were so careful in the first 3 years of our relationship & now we've spoke into depth & want to extend our family, nothing. Girls around me are falling pregnant without trying. Really disheartening ☹️

You are better to use ovulation sticks. A period tracker will not be as accurate.

Okay, I'll have a look into it. Thanks.

Tried cheap ovulation kits etc...they were shit.

Go and get yourself a Clearblue digital, the one with the smiley face.

Worked for me first time out...I was lucky but it can't hurt to try. X

TheLegendOfBeans · 10/05/2017 14:04

Ps: expensive but 100% worth it

PotteringAlong · 10/05/2017 14:04

5 months is nothing, really.

Orangedaisy · 10/05/2017 14:07

Agreed, don't get too disheartened or compare with others. My DDs took 9 months trying and 15 months trying, even using the clear blue digital ovulation sticks.

JanineBallet · 10/05/2017 14:17

Okay, thank you. I'll pop to tesco's later today!

JanineBallet · 10/05/2017 14:19

Oh, okay. With the people around me & my sister who conceived within 6 weeks of trying. I was concerned. We might as well enjoy our time! :)

Sorry to hijack but I've bit the bullet and bought a pack of ov tests. Just the one that picks up lh. Clear blue 10 pack. Can I clarify something, does it just go from blank face to static smiley or does it have flashing smiley before static smiley?? I've seen ladies on here mention static and flashing so want to check so I know what am looking for (did first today and blank. Expect it to be til the weekend when I hope to ov)

ArchiesMamaBird · 10/05/2017 15:16

Hi OP. I know exactly how you are feeling. I'm 26, DH is 30. Both healthy. We have a DS who is 3, and we conceived him without even trying. Fast forward to now, and we've been ttc #2 for 11 months and nothing!!

So disheartening, and I agree that everyone else seems to get pregnant straight away. But it's totally normal to take a while I'm afraid.

Good Luck Flowers

CB is always blank first time and then will develop in to a flashing smiley with a surge followed by a static when you have a bigger surge and that means you will ovulate within 12-36hrs. I used to get 5flashing smileys before my static. I also used it alongside IC OPK and it took 6 cycles of this to get my BFP this month 😊

ew1990 · 10/05/2017 17:06

It took me 2 years and a lot of patience to conceive after coming off contraception

Orangedaisy · 10/05/2017 18:10

The month I conceived DD2 I didn't get a flashing smiley (having had one every other month), went straight to static smiley. Not sure what was going on there...

user1488270932 · 10/05/2017 18:20

Ah ok that's good to know thank you! Dp has been put on notice today that he will be getting a 'smiley face' msg soon!

JanineBallet · 10/05/2017 21:50

Oh really? I'm 26... defo wanted my first child before my 30's. I'm the last in my personal circle of friends to have a baby. Youngest is 2 oldest is 7...

JanineBallet · 10/05/2017 21:51

11 months really? Wow. I guess as long as I have my first child before I'm 30 (personal want) I'll be okay.

Thanks you
