How many days before AF is due can you expect an accurate result?

Asking as a couple of days ago I felt pregnant but AF wasn't due for about a week. Have tested today 5 days before AF but got a negative result. Maybe I'm symptom spitting and wishful thinking but did anyone have to wait longer for a positive result?

I'd say a maximum of 3 days before AF is due, and use something like the super drug early response, and first wee of the day, but you're still pretty unlikely to get a positive that early, just because of when the hormone levels start to rise.
