Depo provera

Hi all, am new here, looks like a fab website. Apologise if this has been raised many times before, have done a quick trawl through previous threads but couldn't find anything. Basically, wanted to know of anyone's epxeriences of ttc after being on the depo provera injection. If I knew then what I know now never would have bothered! Would like to ttc no 3, been on depo for at least 18 months, had last injection last Sept, and so far not even the faintest or slightest hint of a period or indeed ovulation. Any advice/info at all very gratefully received.

Was on deepo for about a year - had the last injection at the christmas time and conceived end of august. I am a very fertile person btw - HTH

There is a lot of info on the web about the problems Depo has caused for people who then want another child. It took months for my periods to come back and, 9 months later, we are still trying for that elusive second baby. I understand that a lot of doctors in the US now don't actually prescribe it to women who want to have more children. It's a gloomy picture I'm afraid. That said, it does vary from woman to woman. It takes "up to a year" for periods to come back so please hang on in there!

It took my body about a year to get back to normal after depo.

From what i know from friends/family it does take quite a good while to get you body back on track, my SIL was trying for 2 yrs and was just starting to go throught the tests, and she got pg after coming off the depo.

Oh, btw, I was on depo for donkey's years. Probably about 9 years. We weren't ttc when I fell pg with ds so I suppose I don't know to what extent it delayed conception.

Last injection for me was November 2004, cycles back to normal August 2006 and still trying for #3 - having tests now....would never recommend the depo ever ever ever!!

I had 6 shots of depo and it was 9m after my last that I got my period. Was quite hellish waiting for it, sympathies.

i had 1 shot,and when it was time for my second,i had been bleeding for 6 weeks so they refused to give me another.decided to try for another baby,but had no period for 16months.

got period in the september and started try for a baby.found out in the january that i was pg,and thought i was only 7 weeks.started bleedinga nd had scan which showed i was actually 12 weeks and had been carrying twins but one had died.couldnt help but wonder if it was down to the depo provera.

gave birth to dd3 (my number5 baby) in the july (2004)

am now 10 weeks pg with baby number 6 and would never even consider having depo again.have some friends that have had it and have all had similar probs ttc afterwards.

Thanks for all the replies, really appreciated. I know I need to keep my expectations realistic, could take some time! Just glad I came off it when I did, was going to stay on it a bit longer as I knew none of the difficulties I may face whilst I was still on it. Thanks again.

Thanks for starting this thread Hay74 and welcome To Mumsnet. I'm not ttc but am a bit worried that after coming off depo my period eventually came back but is now gone again, is this normal too?

I shudder @ the name of the thing! Argh, so many tearful nights thanks to that evil injection! Put 4 stone on in 1 yr, now a whale, having extremely hard job to lose any of it and my emotions were all over the place. I came off it and went onto the mini pill for a yr but been off everything for 8 months and feel so much better!
