Quick summary. DD coming up for 10 months old. Only had one period since which was around mid May followed by two separate one day bleeds then nothing. Been feeling awful for last 3/4 weeks. Did test Monday and it was positive . Did another Tuesday morning, also positive. Yesterday evening got incredible pains which felt like severe constipation (I have been constipated too, as I was with first pregnancy). Tried to go to the low but too sore to squeeze. Pain subsided then as I was putting DD to bed, blood everywhere. Called NHS24, they suggested either possible m/c else an ectopic pregnancy and arranged for me to go into local hospital out of ours immediately. Also told me to take any sanitary wear for inspection/analysis. Went along, doctor prodded my tum, asked my blood group (it's Rh negative) and told me to see my own doctor in the morning and booked me in for a scan at gynacology unit for Friday. When I asked about the saving blood stains she said just to bin them. She said it could be two things - I had been pregnant and now wasn't (so assuming this means m/c, else it's implantation bleeding).

I'm just concerned about the difference in diagnosis. The nurse on the phone at NHS24 was pretty concerned that I get to the hospital immediately and then the doctor there hardly did anything at all.

Could this just be a period and the two positive tests were just flukes?

Still bleeding this morning

got to feed ds so will post again in a bit - basically i think doc at hospital isn't concerned about ectopic pg coz your pains have subsided, which they wouldn't have done with ectopic. of course if the pains come back, go along to A & E and explain situation immediately! had a similar experience with ds - suspected ectopic and all was fine. best of luck - L

Is it a lot of blood, or just like a period?

Could you do another test and see what that says?

What time you seeing your doc?

Hi folks

Just back from docs who wasn't very much more informative. He said that I should just stick with the appointment at the gynacology unit tomorrow and then take it from there. Added that it was very unlikely that the tests were wrong, espec with all the other symptoms. So no further forward really. Just to take it easy today, ha with a very active 10 month DD.

I may be going off at a tangent to the subject + you probably already know (but just in case...)if you are Rh negative you are going to have to be careful re Rh incompatibility when you do have a second pregnancy (in France they tell you all about it when you are planning a baby - it seems it doesn't affect the first pregnancy but can effect the second foetus if it has a different blood group) - there is lots of info on the web.

Thanks LIP. I was aware of the implications although I thought the anti D injection I got immediately after giving birth the first time sorted that out.

I'm OK about it all. If the worst comes to the worst then it was meant to be and my innards are not quite ready for childbearing again yet.

Pagan - if your LMP was mid May, that would make you say 6 ish weeks pregnant. In which case the scan tomorrow may not be conclusive, as it would probably be too early to see a heartbeat - so you may well have to go back for a further scan if they don't see a heartbeat tomorrow, and/or if they think that you are less than 6 weeks gone atm. Before 6 weeks they would see a sac, at about 6 weeks they would see a fetal pole, and at about 7/8 weeks a heartbeat. The heartbeat is the most important thing - as it confirms the fetus is OK. I had implantation bleeding/threatened mc at around 5 weeks pg - this was like a light short period, with blood and cramps. I don't think its possible to get a false positive pg test unless you are on medication which contains HCG hormone (i think some fertility drugs do). best of luck with the scan tomorrow. Make sure that you get an internal scan, rather than an abdo scan - an internal scan shows things a week earlier than an abdo scan in early pg. If you have an internal scan, you need an empty bladder beforehand, but if you have an abdo one you need a full one especially so early on. Best of luck tomorrow.

Well ladies ........ I'm 10 WEEKS PREGNANT!!!!!

Went for scan and they said well we'll try the normal scan first but they don't usually show anything but there it was, kicking, breathing, heartbeat the lot!

What I thought was a period back in May must have been the implantation bleeding. No explanation for subsequent bleeds so fingers crossed that all remains OK.

Still in
