this used to happen to me - always wondered about it!

Greensleeves · 11/03/2007 10:48

Yes, sometimes - it's very annoying. A coupleo f times I've thought it had finished and then started again.

maisym · 11/03/2007 10:48

I'm bf & af last month for just one day so far

mum2sam · 11/03/2007 10:54

ive always had it from what i can remember. Im on for 5 days in total but only really bleed for 4 days two either side.

I'm the same - have one or very light days, then a one or two day break, then two heavy days. The gap is gradually closing though I think. I count day 1 as the first day of spotting but allow for a longer fertile period just to make sure.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/03/2007 14:15

Day 1 should be the first day that you see proper flow, not spotting.

charliecat · 11/03/2007 14:32

Yes 2 days on, 1 off, then on again for 1 more day

Beetrootccio · 11/03/2007 14:33

yes and then always taken by surprise by the restart

FC2007 · 11/03/2007 14:36

I've had this ever since I had an op a couple of years ago. pattern alsmost exactly the same as yours. Dont think it "means" anything. I count day one as the first day i see red blood (as opposed to brown or pink staining).

cityangel · 12/03/2007 10:53

I've always had this break in the middle. It's very re-assuring to know I am not the only one No idea why though

feedmenow · 12/03/2007 12:22

My acupuncturist told me that in chinese medicine they say a period should be a strong flow for a solid 4-5 days and that any stop/starting, etc, is not good - I think only to the extent that you may be run-down/low in iron/ill health, etc. Don't know how true this is......?

Get your thyroid levels checked! That is classic thyroidy bleeding pattern. Sorry for barging in, but it's a bit of a soapbox of mine at the mo. Seriously, especially if you have other symptoms, ask for a thyroid test.

Lio · 12/03/2007 20:49

Pretty much same for me mum2sam, has been ever since I was a teenager.

FC2007 · 13/03/2007 09:44

duchesse
what are the other sypmtoms of a thyroid problem?

duchesse · 13/03/2007 11:12

There are so many that an underactive thyroid can often be mistaken for something else. Here are the main underactive thyroid symptoms:

Low body temperature- if you are fertility temping, having a BBT lower than 36C is almost diagnostic
feeling cold a lot of the time- cold hands and feet
unexplained weight gain, weight difficult to lose again despite optimal diet/exercise regimes
feeling sluggish
increased need for sleep (falling asleep in daytime? needing to go to bed at 8-9pm despite normal rising time)
trouble thinking straight, indecisiveness (can mimic depression)
dry skin and hair
poor digestion (digestive enzymes need optimal temps to function properly)
heavy periods
fertility issues (including repeat early m/c)
hair loss
eyebrows can thin at outer edges
I read somewhere that repeat sinus problems can be a symptom

There are more, including joint pain, and many others. There are loads of good sites available if you google "hypothyroid symptoms". If you have a thyroid test and want to get pregnant, you should aim for a TSH lower than 2 (don't worry, just ask your gp for results and google- there's loads out there). Anything above this is not optimal, but GPs don't like to treat until your thyroid is virtually b&ggered (TSh higher 10 seems to be their cut-off point)

mum2sam · 08/04/2007 21:23

oh my god i didnt realise it could mean something like this. Im always sluggish and have cold hands and feet

Pollyanna · 08/04/2007 21:26

\i have this too, but didn't realise it was also a symptom of hypothyroidism. I was googling it earlier today as I thought I had the other symptoms (always cold, weight gain etc).

custy · 08/04/2007 21:27
