Hayfever and ttc

I was happily taking antihistamines daily to keep my hayfever at bay until I stumbled across the suggestion they're not recommended when ttc. I've stopped taking them over the past few days but my hayever symptoms are almost unbearable. I'm reluctant to call the doctor because it seems like a really silly thing to ask, especially as I'm not actually even pregnant. I'm not sure if they'll take me seriously! Do any fellow hayfever sufferers have any advice? What are you guys taking?

Please let me know if this is true, I cant live without my hayfever tablets. What if you use the nasal sprays instead of a pill, that might be ok.

There are antihistamines you can take while pregnant so don't suffer for no reason

Thanks dementedpixie. I did have a look at the NHS website but I just want to be told a brand that is definitely suitable. I've googled different corticosteroid nasal sprays and they all say to hold off during pregnancy. Which I'm not... that's why I feel silly 🙈 I might just speak to the pharmacist or go with a nasal spray after obsessively reading the packaging! I'm recently post mc which is why I'm a bit anxious about doing everything right! I will let you know littleonek!

I think you Re being a bit ridiculous. You aren't pregnant, you are trying. Take the damn pills.
I took medication while pregnant, anti histamines and pain relief. You have to weigh up the risks and benefits.

Ok thank you dementedpixie! It may seem ridiculous, yes, wowbutter but when you should be 14 weeks pregnant and are instead back to square one, you do whatever it bloody well takes. I did say that I was happily taking them until I stumbled across the information, and was taking them into my last pregnancy due to an abundance of other allergies and I certainly have to look after number 1 if I'm going to have a successful pregnancy, of course, I just wondered what other people were doing is all

littleonek, I checked if the Tesco brand ones I was taking were ok and she advised a natural nose spray called Sterimar instead as you can use that when pregnant as well. I'm sure your allergy tablets will be fine, i just noticed on the leaflet it said to speak to your doctor or pharmacist

Hey! I am on daily cetirizine, and have been told that although it's not ideal, it's better than you being totally run down and miserable as that can sometimes be worse for you. However, that is for my skin complaints. I used prevalin nasal spray last year and noticed it says on the box that it is safe to use during pregnancy, so that might help you? I found it helped my hay fever alot x

I wasn't aware of this being issue when ttc to conceive but makes sense. I had two IVF babies so I suppose I wouldn't have been. However I was pregnant twice during hay fever season and didn't feel comfortable taking antihistamines. I used homeopathic remedies instead so haymax for applying round the nose as a barrier, I ate local honey and used Nelsons Pollena tablets. They weren't quite as effective as antihistamines but made it bareable. Good luck!
