Friend is 7wks pg after 1 m/c. She has had a bleed. Would a preg test put her mind at rest or is it too early for a neg result to show?

She is desperate. Would doing a pregnancy test help at all, or would it still show as positive because she has only started to bleed?

She found blood this morning, not loads, but not 'spotting'. Though she has had nothing more all day and no pain at all.

Any information or thoughts would be much appreciated.

I would have thought that a pregnancy test wouldn't prove anything as it can take a while for the hcg levels to drop after a miscarriage. I would tell your friend to call her gp or go to the nearest EPU if she can, perhaps they can give her a scan to put her mind to rest.

Pregnancy hormones still hang around for a couple of weeks after a miscarriage so any result could be misleading.

Is she under a midwife yet, or is there an EPU locally who she could call for advice?

Thanks for responding. She has been to gp, who booked her in for a scan on Monday. It's a long wait for her and I already kind of knew the answer, but wanted to see if there was a chance a test would put her mind at rest.

It took her a while to get pg this time, she is so upset.

Oh dear, how sad.

What a shame she has to wait for the scan, it must seem like an eternity for her.

Let us know how she gets on.
