OK - I feel stupid asking this question, but it is worrying me ... and well.... who else can I ask?

I work from home and work alot( and go on MN alot ) with my laptop on my lap.

Could this be damaging my ovaries/eggs/girlie bits???

Og go I'm going to have to a bit more now. Maybe I should have changed my name!

Im not sure about ovaries, but you should have a good posture and wrist position or else you will suffer later.

You must be bent over. Don't you get achy back, neck?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 08/03/2007 16:32

No question is silly on here.

You won't damage anything like your ovaries by having your laptop on your lap.

Would certainly agree with the other poster re having good posture and wrist position.

I don't put my mobile phone in my jeans pocket for that very reason - no evidence just instinct!

bluebell82 · 08/03/2007 16:38

Hi- I think it relates mainly to men's fertility because those little guys are sensitive to heat I suppose similar to them having hot baths... maybe sit at the dinner table and not on the sofa!

Blimey. Dh sits with his laptop on his lap all the time! If I'm not pg this cycle I'll have to make him sit at the table!

Ready · 08/03/2007 17:17

Sunshinedays - I'd never really thought about it til I just read your question. I'm sure it can't damage your ovaries, it's just heat isn't it? Or am I being daft?

at you suggesting you should have changed your name!! I am sure there are dafter questions asked

seaside72 · 08/03/2007 22:06

Sunshinedays - I also work with laptop and had exactly the same thoughts - glad you asked the question

detoxdiva · 08/03/2007 22:09

I think the warnings about laptops on laps just apply to men

hairymclary · 08/03/2007 22:14

you actually can get burns from sitting with it on your lap for long periods of time.
I don't know about radiation and things like that, but personally I would err on the side of caution and at the very least have it on a cushion/tray, if not sit at a table with it.

Sunshinedays · 09/03/2007 15:27

Right - I'm bumping this again - coz I'm still not sure.

Me? A Worrier? Never.

How about not using it on your lap from now on Just in case and all that? From one born worrier to another

feedmenow · 09/03/2007 18:39

Sunshinedays, I would try and avoid it. My mil is into all things holistic and spiritual and she reckons that any electrical equipment is bad for you, as in having your mobile phone on your bedside table (at head height) overnight is bad, possibly contributing to brain tumour. Now I'm sure that if there was scientific evidence of this then we would all be aware, but what I'm saying is that if a whole group of people are saying it then there may be some truth in it.
And beside this, it obviously would be better for your posture to be sitting at a table/desk.....
