Test results show Chlamydia

Good morning,

We have been ttc for almost two years and have started all the tests etc to try and find out more about why we haven't had a baby. My first dc was conceived without even trying three years ago and so we were a bit disappointed as to why we are struggling.

My gp has just called me to say one of my blood results has shown evidence of a previous chlamydia infection and I'm booked in for swabs next week. I'm absolutely devastated and don't know how I'm going to tell my DH! I've never had any symptoms of an sti so must have had it for years and years. It's been five years since I slept with anyone except my husband and it must have caused some massive damage 😢 he's going to hate me and think I'm disgusting. The gp said not all chlamydia is sexually transmitted but looking online it says it is. I don't know what I'm going to say or do 😬

I had my appt at 9 and the nurse seemed to think it was just procedure and she didn't think there was anything to worry about. She said the smear tests often come up negative because it's either a long gone infection, different strain or a cross contamination. She said the result will be available by the end of the week but with it being easter it might be next week now. I'm a teacher so still at work till Friday and then off for two weeks and I'd selfishly like to know asap because I've heard the treatment can make you pretty sick.

This has made me feel better. If I'm diseased I might take the cowards option and get the gp to tell him!

Just so people know chlamydia can clear up naturally. I had it and I'd only ever slept with or even kissed one guy. When he was tested he didn't have an active infection but did have the antibodies. Dr explained in some people, very occasionally, the body clears the infection itself. So it's possible you had it years ago and then it just sorted itself out.

Ha ha really! It's because I started off on different days but with baby being ill I just stopped caring. It's all the same me I promise. I just have different names for my different threads but lost track. It all comes up as the same colour though so you know it's me.

The dr did say it could have been something that naturally went away or was treated with antibiotics when I was I'll with something else. When I started teaching I was constantly on antibiotics for things. I was once on a 14 day course for a chest infection and then a few weeks later had tonsillitis so bad I couldn't eat.

How did it go

rainbowsockstoday · 11/04/2017 07:51

I was nervous all the way up to the appointment but the nurse doing my smear test seemed wholly unconcerned and said there was nothing to worry about. She said even if the test is positive then it just needs my two boys testing and then can be treated. She said though these things are often harmless and she'd have expected at least some symptoms if I have had it for so long and it caused PID or other problems.

My test results have come back negative 👍🏻

Zoe1983 · 12/04/2017 11:54

Fantastic news! Glad all was well x

rainbowsockstoday · 12/04/2017 12:01

Still a wiry as to why my blood tests came back positive though. With this and DC being in hospital twice I've had a horrible week.
