Bleeding on mini pill

user1440873379 · 04/04/2017 11:12

Hi, I've been on the progesterone only pill for just over 3 months. No problems until a week ago when I started bleeding, and it's been really dark brown. I know that bleeding is a side effect but it's affecting my sex life and I feel like if I keep bleeding for another week I'm just going to go to the gp and change contraception. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you change contraception because of it?
TIA x

I had constant brown spotting the mini pill it was awful. 4 months of spotting then two months of nothing then another 5 weeks of spotting and I stopped it as now ttc. Will not be going back on it. Was previously on combined pill but Dr changed me cos I was too heavy Blush

Is the combined pill the one where you stop for a week to have a period?

Yes it is.

user1440873379 · 04/04/2017 22:45

Okay thank you, I'll most likely change to the combined pill if this bleeding carries on

I changed from Cerelle/ Cezarette (constant bleeding) to Noriday on which I've only had one period and it was 7 days exactly. So it's worth asking to switch mini pill before going back to combined if you can (as you may yet be able to escape periods completely!)

I also had mood issues on Cerelle/Cezarette which have cleared up on Noriday.

I bled for three weeks on cezarette and felt stressed and tearful all the time.

I have no idea what mine are...how do you know? Haha sorry I'm new to this Blush

It should just be written on the box! There's a good chance it's Cerelle/Cezarette (I think they're essentially the same, just one is a brand name and one the generic) as that seems to what they prescribe most widely, so I presume is the cheapest to the NHS.

But if you go back and say you're having problems with it (provided that's what it is), they'll usually try you with something different even if it would be at higher cost.

I used to take one called feanolla, and a week ago I switched brands and that's when I started bleeding, it could be that?

OP posts:

Feanolla has the same drug in as cerelle /cerazette. This is the most commonly prescribed progestogen only pill as it has a 12 hr window to take before its missed pill as opposed to three hours with most of the others. Did you ask to be changed op or did gp/pharmacy change you?
What does it say on your current box?

I'm seeing the nurse soon so I'll let you know Smile

I've been on cerazette for six months and for the majority of that time have bled! Hoping the gynae can sort it out next month.

user1440873379 · 05/04/2017 12:54

Sorry to hear that groovee :( I went to the nurse and she said I weighed too much for the combined pill so stuck on the mini pill still for now

Maybe if you got them to change you back to the feanolla brand if it was agreeing with you as it's still a mini pill. That's why I got changed to it too, cos I was too heavy!

user1440873379 · 05/04/2017 13:14

I got it changed back but don't know if it'll work at all Confused
