Period then BFP... confused!

Hello, I'm a long time lurker and I'm really confused! Would appreciate any insights from wise women of mumsnet!

I had a positive pregnancy test yesterday, 2-3 weeks according to the clearblue indicator, but had a full blown period 16th to 22nd March. Like cramps and clots and the usual horrors.

The closest date we DTD was 12th March but that was days after my fertile window (OPK positive on 3rd March). We also DTD on 2nd, 3rd and 5th March but that doesn't match the 2-3 weeks.

I'm trying to be overjoyed (been trying for a while and I have borderline low ovarian reserve) but it seems so odd!! Can you conceive then have a proper period, and still have a happy ending??

The weeks aren't always accurate...

For peace of mind it might be worth a call to the epu!

Only time will tell, I'm afraid!

This happened to me and yes I was properly pregnant! It turned out I had a sub chorionic haematoma that could have caused the period like bleeding (and bled a few times more later during the pregnancy). My local early pregnancy assessment unit were great - ours is via gp referral - but I did have to go a couple of times in the early days as it was too early to see yolk or fetal pole on the first scan (6 weeks) but was there clear as anything 2 weeks later... Good luck, hope it turns out ok for you too.

This happened to me & unfortunately it was an ectopic. Don't want to panic you, but a visit to an early pregnancy unit would be my recommendation...I was minutes away from rupture by the time it was finally diagnosed at 7 1/2 weeks (but normal, heavy period at 4 weeks). Fingers crossed yours has a happier ending, but best to play it safe.

Thank you all, this is really helpful!! I did wonder about ectopic when I was 4am/googling (bad idea) but there are equally as many good news stories.

Going to call my GP surgery tomorrow. Ironically my referral to the fertility clinic came through yesterday too!

Hi everyone.

I just thought I'd update this. Was rushed into hospital this morning after severe pain overnight. It was unfortunately an ectopic pregnancy. I am in a ward now recovering after surgery.

I should have greater priorities than updating mumsnet but you were so helpful with your responses I thought I would update. Plus OH is off to the shop to get me some magazines and throats sweets so I am keeping myself busy :)

Classic shoulder tip pain, btw. Don't ignore it if you get it ladies!

I'm really sad but I know that it's now possible for me to get pregnant, so I'm hopeful for the future. Thank you all :)

Something that really helped me after my ectopic & surgery was to learn that your fallopian tubes move & can catch eggs from either side! So although I lost one tube, my fertility was NOT halved. Hope that thought helps you too & you have a speedy recovery.

To echo what the previous poster said, i lost a tube years ago after 2 ectopics. A few months later I was pregnant with DD2 and she came from the ovary on my tubeless side. Our reproductive system is all very close together and it does compensate.

Thank you all for your kind messages!! I admit I had to google female anatomy to figure out how it works lol. It's really reassuring to know that it's not a fertility disaster. The consultant came round and said as much!

I am very sore this morning but feeling positive. Being discharged later:)

Also so grateful for the NHS. 6 hours between seeing my GP and waking up from surgery.

Thanks again for all your advice and wisdom, I'm so grateful. I'm sorry for those who have also been through it, it's not fun is it... I really appreciate you sharing your stories :)

I'm so sorry for your loss 💐 The pregnancy above was with only one tube 2 years after my 2nd ectopic so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Do all you can now to rest and recover from the op, it's surprising how much it takes it out of you x

Dinks just echoing the others, so sorry for what you've been through, physically and emotionally. I had an ectopic almost a year ago, lost a tube but was relieved to find out my fertility was not halved. Good luck with your recovery and fx for a healthy baby in your future.
