I've heard that chlomid can affect the quality of the eggs although it can help you produce more. Also that health wise its not good - what's the general view out there?

Hi there - I took it when ttc ds1 - he turned out fine, and I then conceived ds2 only 5 months later (assistance free, other than dp...). Obstetriacian (sp?) told us that we should only take it for a max of 6 cycles (3 to start with). In fact, we conceived on 2nd cycle so never got that far. Only side-effect i found was hot flushes, especially with 1st cycle. But I don't know all the health ins and outs, sure others will know more.

Clomid encourages the ovaries to work harder. It is often used as a first line of treatment for PCO or PCOS. It should be used with a degree of caution in such women and they should be monitored whilst on it as it can affect hormone levels markedly (particularly that of LH). The starting does is usually 50 mg which may be increased to 100 mg.

If clomid has not been successful in women with PCOS within six months, more investigations and alternative treatments are usually called for.

Side effects with clomid have been reported, notably tummy and bowel upsets, bloating, headache, dizziness and breast discomfort. Multiple pregnancy is a risk whenever ovulation is induced with fertility drugs.
