Two consecutive miscarriages looking for some hope....any positive experiences?

Hi all

We've been ttc for baby number 1 for a little over two years. In this time we have been through a mmc and a natural mc. The EPU won't carry out any tests to find out why until I have been through the heartbreak for a third time. Just to add I am 31 and will turn 32 this summer - I know we have plenty of time but in my mind time is running out.

I feel like I am loosing hope when everyone around me is falling pregnant or just had a baby. Wondering if you guys can give any hope back with any positive stories of your experiences if you have been through this?

Hi, Sorry you are going through this. I had a miscarriage then took a year to get pregnant again then had a missed miscarriage. Went on to have 3 children then another 2 miscarriages. So, overall a good outcome!

I had two miscarriages (8 weeks & 6 weeks) & then two babies. DS was born when I was 32 and DD when I was 35. 2 miscarriages is awful luck, but it really doesn't mean that there's anything wrong, necessarily. My GP quoted a study that I found really comforting - I can't remember the exact numbers, but the gist was that the vast majority of women who've had 2 miscarriages have a healthy baby within two years. You're still young. You still have time. And the chances are, you'll have your baby sooner rather than later.

Another one who can hopefully give you some hope.

I had 2 miscarriages, my daughter, - molar pregnancy and then my son.

The odds are still very much in your favour - I found "taking charge of your fertility" a good book and helped me feel like I understood things a bit more, and made me feel like I had some control. If you're into that sort of thing I'd recommend it?

After ttc 2.5 years I had 4 early miscarriages in 6 months last year (all before 6 weeks). I got my bfp again in Jan and was immediately put on progesterone supplements by the EPU. I'm now 8+4 and an early scan shows a heartbeat so I'm hoping this is my sticky bean!

Another here who had two mc's and am now 23 weeks pregnant.

There's a really good TTC after MC thread on here which really helped me - some lovely ladies on there who understand what you're going through.

Good luck...I know how difficult and painful this journey is...my sis told me she was pg about 6 weeks after my second mc and I found it really tough. Luckily I got my bfp about 4 weeks later.

Thank you everyone for all your lovely comments. Just need to try and keep a positive mental attitude about it all.

I think my periods aren't helping....they are regular but lasting two weeks and it's getting me down as it's eating up my ttc time.

I hope to have some good news soon xx

I had 2 early miscarriages with a year of ttc between them. I'm 39 and thought I'd never be a mum again. I was told until I'd had 3 mc's the NHS wouldn't investigate. Now I'm 33 weeks pregnant with DS#2. It took us a total of 3 years to get this far. Many couples have been through much worse and have succeeded. Don't give up hope.

After I had two in a row (literally on a row, no period I'm between), gp put me on asprin. It did the job 2 months later :-)
I don't think you start it until bfp, then continue until 12 weeks or so ask your gp. I also had blood tests that brought back so obscure but harmless (to me) clotting issue. That may have caused the mcs which the asprin prevented.
It's a horrible time. Do make a pest of yourself at gp.

Another positive story. My cousin had DD1 after 3 months of ttc. With DD2 she had two consecutive mc; one at 11 weeks after 6 months of trying, then one at 5 weeks two months later. She was pregnant with DD2 6 weeks later and DD2 is now 4mo! Fingers crossed for you I know how devastating it is

Just to say thanks for these positive stories and for the thread OP. I've had two in a row now (albeit a year apart - stopped trying for a while). Hoping for a bfp soon.

I had one baby in 2013 then two MC @9&10 weeks in 2014 and then another baby in 2015 and now pregnant with my third due in 2017. So odd number years must be my luck. Just touching 13 weeks now so feel relaxed but I think once you've had losses you come to despise the first trimester.

I have just had two consecutive early miscarriages. I'm 30 and whilst it's been really horrible, feeling hopeful and have everything crossed that it's just bad luck. We are trying for number 1.

It must be frustrating with your periods not regular again yet. Is this your first month TTC following last miscarriage?

ITGurl, what dose aspirin did your doctor put you on and when did you start taking it? I've been researching this a lot and it seems to work for so many people. Do you have a clotting issue that's been diagnosed?

bump with my second baby (4th preg) I was on aspirin 75mg OD, but you don't start taking it until AFTER a positive test. Apparently studies showed an association with the egg failing to implant in the uterus with use prior to implantation. Obviously some women take aspirin daily for other reasons but where aspirin is used for fertility by consultant recommended started from BFP onwards. I am not taking it this time.

bump I've also been told to take 75mg aspirin this time around. My ds was born at 27 weeks due to a huge blood clot on my placenta, and although I've never been diagnosed with a clothing disorder the consultant seemed to believe there may be a link between that and my recurrent mc.

I had two, then DS, then two more, then DD.

Lesley Regan's book is excellent. She says in it that statistically, it's more likely to be ok next time than not till you've had 5 in a row. Really.

Thanks re the aspirin. I'm 1dpo today. Hoping my 2ww passes quickly. I may take a test 12dpo if I'm feeling pregnancy symptoms just in case so I can start aspirin if positive.

We got pregnant twice in a row and I need to keep reminding myself that it may not happen 3rd time in a row.

Anybody else in 2ww?

@calimommy where did you read you shouldn't take aspiring when ttc? The studies referred to in this report suggested that you should, but it is a couple of years ago - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/11943048/Aspirin-a-day-could-boost-chance-of-having-a-baby.html

bump I've been pregnant twice in a row too and also assuming it will happen again quickly. Though I don't seem to have ovulated yet this cycle (first one after mc at 5 weeks) so not in 2ww yet. Hoping will do in next few days.

harriet I didn't read it, my consultant told me not to take it until after getting a positive test. I had been taking it for my previous pregnancy when I had a SCH but I had lost that at 10 weeks. We discussed when I should start taking it again and her opinion at the time was after BFP. This was 2 yrs ago.

Hi harriet I just got a chance to read the article you referenced, it doesn't actually say that pre-pregnancy aspirin is recommended, it says the studies are divided. They quote one obstetrician who agrees with it but then also reference others who dispute that. I don't think there is any dispute about aspirin use during pregnancy but rather disagreement about its use prior to pregnancy. Of course that doesn't mean it isn't beneficial, just that there hasn't yet been conclusive proof otherwise.
Ttc is a very stressful thing. I have been very lucky but I also know the feelings of loosing a pregnancy. Sometimes I would look at my friends who had never had a mc and think how they had no idea how much it hurt. I'm sending positive vibes for your next pregnancy. I absolutely hate the first trimester and all the worry that comes with it. It's shit. I did mention it below, although I don't know if it would suit you, but I tried Vitex Agnus Castus which is an otc herb and had pretty amazing results. X
