In labour at 36 weeks and scared

So I'm currently on the labour ward contracting and so scared and shocked. It's my 3rd baby but the other 2 both went to 41 weeks so the hubby has had to chuck together a hospital bag and run to the supermarket for some babygros. I feel so unprepared. I thought I was the overdue type but they are telling me the baby is imminent. Oh dear. I always dreamed of being one of the 38 weekers but now I'm in labour at 36 weeks with nothing prepared it's so disconcerting.

Try to focus and calm down - you're in the best possible place right now and people are going to look after you. Anything you don't have ready can easily be bought later, get your DH to help run around and buy everything. Try and breathe and stay calm - you will get to meet your little baby soon Flowers

I had my baby at 34 weeks. Apart from a few feeding issues and some jaundice she was just perfect (but a bit small!) and she's now a full-sized and healthy toddler. 36 weeks is just one week away from being classed full term. Keep calm and enjoy meeting your little one.

I feel a little calmer already reading your responses. You know when you just never think it's gonna happen to you, especially as the other two were so late. I'm not worried about the baby size as I had an extra scan the other day and they said he's a healthy 7lb already, well that's their educated guess anyway.
Because I'm not in agony yet I feel like a bit of a fraud but they assure me I am contracting and it's just the start of slow labour. They don't want to send me home because the other two babies came so fast. I'm remembering the pain of labour now though and it's scaring me.

I had my daughter at 36+2 and she's now a healthy 2 year old although she was a lazy feeder and a terrible sleeper to begin with I'm sure your wee one will be fine - good luck!!

I've got a 34 seeker who's now a totally perfect 6 year old. Spent one night in proper special care. Home in just over a week.
Try not to worry because you're literally a day or two off term. Good luck!

Oh and the hospital are good for hats and nappies etc and someone can get you an emergency pack of babygros etc

I've just realised this thread is in the wrong section how do I get it moved?
Also my pjs are shocking. I'm in my hubbys old tshirt and some old bottoms. I was treating myself to new ones but thought I still had ages to go. Oh well.

Explode a week in hospital might do me good they shipped me out on a 6 hour discharge last time.
Great to know all ended so well though that gives me hope that his little lungs will be fine.

Celery I had a bit of gas and air the last two times but I'm open to anything I'll see how the pain goes I've always been open minded as far as pain relief goes, I ain't no martyr

Trust me when I say no-one cares what you're dressed in when you're in hospital! At least you have pjs i had a super quick labour and just about managed to get my jeans off before she arrived Confused

37 is term. You'll be fine. Dts were 32 weekers, they're 6 now!

I was naked bar a very flimsy sheet when I was ambulanced in from the standalone midwife unit. My husband forgot to pick up the hospital bag in the rush so I remained naked, as did my son (didn't even have a nappy!)

Oh and yes, have all the drugs. I wish I had!!

We had practically nothing for a diddy baby. They'll have nappies and a blanket. It'll be fine. Midwives have seen it all.

The labour has stopped and I'm so disheartened now. I thought it was imminent having never had a false alarm before. Sigh. I got a bit excited and text a few friends about it (which I wouldn't usually do I'd text after baby's arrival)

Ahh what a let down, especially when you'd got yourself psyched up for it. This labour is obviously not going to behave like the others.

My first labour was 2 hours, 2nd 45 mins. Went in hospital with 3rd on the Friday, didn't have him until 5am Mon. Labour kept stopping and starting, we lived 45 mins away from hospital so they didn't want to send me home. They had decided I could go the next morning on the Sunday eve. However he decided to come then. I was home by lunchtime that day though. Good Luck. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Mrs Barnett congrats on your new little one.
I fear this one will be the same as your third.
I guess I'd psyched myself up for a 42 weeker then I started contracting with this one and as I've never had a false alarm before I thought it was imminent. If I have to go till 42 weeks now with stop start I'll loose the will to live with the responsibly of the other two as well.
Feel so down about it all.
They kept me in because of previous super fast deliverys like yours and the fact I tear quite badly as they both shot out.
Oh dear woe is me. Woe is me.

Ha, my kids are 13,11,8 now. My kids all flew out. Middle one caught by her dad at home! Ttc #4 (1 with new partner). Hope you're well.

The MIL decided to tell half the world I'm in labour. Now I've got to text people and say nothing is happening. I'm so so sad he didn't arrive x

I had my son at 36 weeks and he was a small but healthy 5lb 9oz. He is now nearly 11 weeks and 11lb 13oz. What I'm saying is your baby will be just fine born at 36 weeks, enjoy your LO when they come and best wishes to you both Flowers

I just read that your labour has stopped! You poor thing! These babies don't realise the stress they put us under do they!? 😊
