Implant removal

Hi all
First time posting, long time lurker!
Me and my other half decided on TTC this year which handily coincided with my implant running its three year course.
I'm having a nightmare with getting it out! Is anyone or has anyone been in a similar position? Officially should have been changed or taken out by the 20th but my doctor couldn't refer me to family planning clinic. After finally getting in touch with them, they have given me an appointment for a consultation on the 7th Feb when they will give me a date of removal.
Does anyone know what the consultation consists of? I'm fairly certain they put it in without a separate appointment last time so bit annoyed I have to have more checks done to have it out than in.
Also, we are now not officially covered due to it running out. Safe to have unprotected sex due to us wanting to try anyway or best to wait till it comes out?

Oh jeez - I remember when I wanted to get mine taken out - what a total BALL ACHE!

Only one GP in my practice could do it, had to wait ages to be given an appointment to just discuss having it taken out before they would refer me to somewhere else. F that.

I ended up just making an appointment at a walk-in sexual health clinic on Burrell street in London - much quicker!!

Oh it's a nightmare! Did you conceive shortly after or did it take a while? I'm kind of worried what my own hormones are like ha ha! I've been on some form of contraception for the last 15 years!

It sucks to hear that you are all having so much trouble, when I finally got around to getting mine taken out it couldn't have been easier!

My gp told me it needed to me taken out at a clinic. Googled family planning clinics in my borough, rung one, spent less than 5 minutes on the phone and got an appointment a few days later.

I had no consultation whatsoever, just went in and got it out.

However, in your case I would stress that it is running out. No need to point out that it will not be replaced.

On cycle 8 TTC #1 - so no luck yet, but hopefully our luck will change soon!

I had a ds 9 months and ten days after mine was removed!!

My GP was the same I made an appointment with the family planning clinic to have mine removed still had to wait a few weeks but was quicker than the GP. After having mine removed my period didn't come back until 7 weeks later I feel pregnant on my 2nd cycle.
