Thread 24. TTC #1 - It's been a tough start to the year but 2017 is still the year of the BFP

Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

It's not been the best start of the year for most but we're still trying to keep it PMA

We've been going a while now so the novelty has somewhat worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We've ditched the Gregorian calendar in favour of the TTC Cycle Day calendar, and we don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

We have a new Grad's Thread. We recently lost a whole load of ttc veterans to the good side and we're absolutely desperate to join in the fun! May 2017 lead us all to upduffed heaven and the Grad's thread, amen.

We don't have rules as such but expect to be talked down from the ledge with kind but firm words if you get too hysterical. But most importantly, don't convince yourself that you're pregnant in the tww. That is paramount!

Ahh thanks girls I must say though the Queen of nailing the FW is Jam. We don't usually do it this much (3 in a row yes) but I just had a feeling O was coming soon so I didn't want to stop. I was right! My temp was post-O this morning so I've actually O'd between CD12 and 13. I did have some O pain yesterday/last night and my CM had turned creamy yesterday evening. Bit confusing because it's so soon after my +ve opk but ah well, I'm in the tww

V v early days yet. Will hold my breath until the line is darker.

Managed to stay awake Alexia - must admit though, neither of us were in the mood and it wasn't our best effort! But, the deed was done. Day 2 of flashing smiley face this morning - mentally preparing ourselves for maybe having to dtd on thurs morning as I'm out thurs night - argh.

Excellent DTD'ing Alexia, I keep flitting between thinking everyday must be best to every other day is. But next month hopefully there won't be a next month I'm defo going back to everyday. It really makes you feel you've given it everything you can.

So I had my first fertility acupuncture last night and I actually really enjoyed it. I was a bit unsure at first, it started with a consultation to discuss my cycles and what I wanted to get from the sessions. She worried me a bit by saying my chart wasn't conclusive that I ovulated even though I really feel I have.

But I feel I really benefited from the acupuncture. I could barely feel the needles going in the left side, but I could definitely feel the right ones. Some felt like cramp, others I could feel inside, it was really weird! But she said I must have a blocked energy line in the right side.

Would any temping experts mind taking a look at my chart? I (and FF) think I ovulated on CD11 - would you agree?

I had an awful dream last night - where there was blood everywhere and I had lost the baby. Shit this waiting to know is agony.

I'm sat at the GP waiting to ask them to do the various blood etc tests that the fertility clinic wants done. Not sure how much of a battle I'm going to have on my hands as the consultant said the GP may think some of the tests are overkill but she wants them done anyway.

This is going to sound like a silly question, but when do I POAS? Do I just wait for AF to start (due 5th Feb) and then if it doesn't, do a test? Jeeez you can tell im a novice can't you!

pyjamas it's also day 2 of flashing smiley for me. We dtd last night and for first time EVER I managed to O after DH (seconds after but still). Sorry for the tmi but there was a lot less leakage afterwards - wondering whether orgasm really does make you retain more??!

Not sure whether should dtd again tonight or wait til tomorrow - if ovia is right then today is 9.0 fertility, tomorrow 10 and thurs 9.5. alexia, jam feel like you'd know - is there any benefit in letting DH build up supply today and then going for it wed and thurs, or should we aim for all 3??

How did the gp go kathrino?

I also went to my gp this morning after my long cycles of late. As I'm only 6months in TTC (although it feels like forever already) as expected she said it's not worth investigating from that perspective as I'm not at a year yet, and despite them being long I am having "regular" cycles (not missing months) so it shouldn't impact on getting pregnant. But as I had such bad pain mid cycle last month she sent me for bloods and referred for an US in case I have PCOS and a cyst that needs some action in the meantime. She also said that this way, if I get to a year TTC with no luck, at least these bloods and investigations will be done ready for the next step if needed. Which was exactly what I was hoping for!

Feeling a bit better about things now (she was so lovely) and I'm just going to expect a 38day cycle again this month so I won't test until after then, no getting my hopes up this month....😬

Binky it sounds like you have a lovely GP! And good that she's reassured that long cycles shouldn't impact TTC

Tonks I would agree with CD11 or at least sometime between CD11 and the morning of CD12. Your timing is still great still! I try to aim for SMEP or dtd whenever I see EWCM. Last cycle we dtd two days in a row, gap, repeat. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow and how each of you feel. This is quite similar to your question harriet. Firstly I would never trust what Ovia says, only trust your body and signs! That includes CM, opks, O pain and temps (if you temp). It's always best to dtd BEFORE ovulation due to the capacitation process sperm need to undergo inside hs. O-2 and O-1 are the most important days so if you feel like O is approaching try to get another BD in. You haven't had a Peak reading yet so you could miss tonight if it's not happening.

pyjamas it does become a chore doesn't it? Not much romance here either just get it done, shove a softcup in and mark my chart with satisfaction

Ron you can test with a FRER 4 days before AF is due but you'll get less of a squinter on the day AF is due. It's all about willpower.

Binky so pleased your GP was lovely and is going to do some tests. That's great! I've suffered with long cycles and anovulatory cycles in the past so I know how you feel. It's awful. It feels like such a battle and a HUGE waste of time. Hope you get to the bottom of it soon

Thanks alexia. I'm just using ovia as a proxy - I think it's accurate as it's in line with the opks and CM - sadly not temping so can't be 100% sure though! Think if I ov Thurs then need to dtd tonight, but if it's Friday I can wait. If it was thurs though wouldn't I have had a static smiley today??

Is there a general thinking that Preseed is better than Conceive Plus or is it just down to personal preference? Only just discovered that KY is not helpful if TTC, woods! Good job this is only our first month!

Sounds like a very successful appointment Binky, hopefully the ultrasound appointment will come through quickly.

I also had a good GP appointment (with my actual GP who I've never met before but who I really liked). He laughed at some of the tests that they had requested and said they were very 'trendy' but was happy to do them anyway. He also said that if we continue down the private route, he was happy to prescribe some of the meds (the ones that he was allowed to prescribe) so we didn't have to pay for everything. Overall though, he said he wasn't particularly worried. Given the number of tests they requested, there was bound to be something abnormal (because nobody is perfect) but it probably wouldn't be anything that either made a big difference or wasn't easily solved.

harriet, I think it might be worth having another go tonight. I sort of feel like maybe position is a bit more important than quantity?

Harriet yes I'd think so but I'm not 100% sure how they work as I never got a Peak reading with them. I think go with your gut. Sometimes it's a bit of luck involved too with timing. I've read people tend to get 4 days of fertile CM so that could be an indicator of where you're at and whether to dtd tonight. Also thinking back to previous cycles and any similar signs. This is tmi but might help others reading. I get 2 days of loose bowel movements a day or so before ovulating. So weird! But I now use it as a sign and it worked for me this cycle

Wine I like preseed and their applicator for FW but I must admit if my CM feels fine I don't always bother. I have Conceive+ too and use it more as a regular lube or if there's no time for preseed.
