Taking painkillers whilst TTC?

Is this ok?

At times i suffer from horrific back pain (i broke it in 4 places a number of years ago and have suffered since). I do see a private physio regularly too. I try & only take paracetamol & ibuprofen, but on bad days i have to revert to codeine. On a very rare occasion i do need more but that hasn't been for a long time now.

I try not to bug my Dr too much about pain relief (because it was a self inflicted injury - horse riding & i hate wasting their time!) but i feel i am going to have to talk to her about this aren't I? When i hopefully conceive i guess i will need a different pain management plan.

I wish a TENs machine was effective!

That sounds awful, sorry you're in so much pain.

It's definitely worth a chat with your GP. Not sure it really was self inflicted and that's got no bearing on the situation now anyway! You need to be as comfortable as possible and should bug your GP as much as you need to get what you need for a good quality of life, now and when you're pregnant.

You're being responsible and you'll need a pain management plan when you get pregnant, as you say, so makes sense to get ahead of it. Let your physio know you're ttc as well. Good luck Smile

I was told all anti-inflammatory drugs are really bad to take if you're TTC. So paracetamol are ok. I could be really wrong though as I've just been told that my docs want to try me on neproxin for 4-6 weeks. Not ideal while I'm TTC really.

Yeah neurofen is a no no in pregnancy so ideally not to be taken if ttc
Paracetamol is fine and so is codeine but you're going to need to talk to your doctor.

Pregnancy worsens back pain and codeine is the strongest they can prescribe you. Even then it's given reluctantly so you need to your doctor and get their back up ASAP

Thanks all, I will book an appointment in the new year to talk it through. Typically, this weekend has been my worst weekend for about 12 months :(
