Coming off the Pill

Me and my OH would like to start TTC as soon as possible. I've been on birth control up until now but we've decided now is the time. I'm exceptionally impatient and don't want to wait any longer (we've waited long enough!) However, I've just started a new pill packet and only had 4 pills. My dr said that there's no harm in stopping mid-packet if that's what I want to do however I've read on a few pregnancy forums that you should finish the pill packet first. Obviously I'm sure my GP knows more about it than women on pregnancy forums lol but even still, I just wanted to know if anyone had done this and how things worked out? I know that it can mess your cycle up and so it can be difficult to chart your ovulation and that kind of thing but other than that, is it so bad?

Finish your pill packet. Enjoy Christmas and new year and then stop. It can really mess up your cycles coming off mid packet. It might take you up to 6-12 months for your cycles to level out and your hormones to become normal so PLEASE don't freak out if things take a little longer. Relax, and try not to stress yourself. My first cycle off the pill was 50 days. Good luck. X

Thank you for your reply :) if it's going to maybe muck my hormones up then maybe I'll just finish the next couple of weeks worth x

I'm not finishing my packet, Dr is fine with that - i assume it's because my pill is Cerelle and doesn't require a break?

dangle90 · 07/12/2016 14:06

I've got 2 cerelle left debating wether not to bother with the last 2, I'm so impatient haha!

Bexicle22 · 07/12/2016 17:46

Mine is Levest. Mine does require a break so I guess maybe it's different? Although my DR also said there wouldn't be a problem if I decided to just stop taking it. Trying to decide whether I should or not... I need to stop being so impatient lol

I know what you mean, then there's that niggle at the back of your head making you wonder if you don't end up having a period for ages are you going to blame yourself for not finishing the pack :/ x

Jellybabie3 · 07/12/2016 18:06

Oh thats a toughy. I waited but i only had about 10 or so to go. However they felt like 10 very long days....as like you as soon as the decision was made my mind focused only on ttc. I was on cerelle though. I guess if your GP said it would be fine?

MouseLove · 07/12/2016 18:09

Finish your pills ladies. The first lesson of patience. This is a waiting game and it will help with the hormones. Resist. WinkGrin

Bexicle22 · 07/12/2016 18:15

I really wish I was born with an ounce of patience! I've got this thing in the back of my head that's telling me it will take ages to conceive so I want to start asap but at the same time, I know it will make it easier to figure out my ovulation if I just finish this pack. Argh! Confused

I know exactly what you mean bex, I've been counting down the days for 4 months! It's killed me lol: my friends on her 5 month with not even a withdrawal bleed! It's such an anxious wait to see how it's going to pan out.

Bexicle22 · 07/12/2016 19:44

I feel your pain lol it's taken me so long to get to a point where it's a "good time" to try and that my partner has finally agreed and now I'm so worried I'm going to be waiting so much longer. My daughter is 8 and I don't really want the age gap to get any bigger! Strange how some doctors say it's okay and others advise to finish a pack. Do you think you'll stop mid-pack or are you going to be patient and finish?

I'm sat looking at my pills now lol, only 2 left and I think I'm just going to finish them... it would annoy me so much if it takes months to have a normal period, I mean it might do anyway but atleast if I finish the pack I won't constantly be wondering if it would have been different if I'd of just had the last 2 if you get me. Bit harder for you though as you've still got almost a full pack! What are you thinking? Yeah it feels like forever when you finally decide doesn't it. X

dangle90 · 07/12/2016 20:15

I suppose we just have to try not to worry, easier said than done though isn't it!

Bexicle22 · 07/12/2016 20:35

I guess if you've only got 2 left it's not so bad. I've still got until 18th but I suppose it's not really that long so I think I'm going to carry on until I've finished my packet too :)

That's the spirit!!!! I waited a YEAR! I stopped my pills, took my week break and then started back up because the time wasn't right and we were offered an opportunity to improve our house. I cried for weeks. It will be all worth it in the end. I promise!!

dangle90 · 07/12/2016 21:03

That must of been awful mouse! Where are you with it all now? I recognise you from other posts x

Bexicle22 · 07/12/2016 21:08

Aw MouseLove, I bet that was frustrating! I suppose it all comes round pretty quick anyway! Are you TTC now?

OP posts:
MouseLove · 07/12/2016 22:31

Yes I'm TTC now. (Yay finally after 3 years!!) Cycle 3, month 4. That first cycle off the pill was a killer 50 days! But I was a good girl and only POAS once. Shock

Bexicle22 · 07/12/2016 22:44

Yay, that's so exciting!! But oh my gosh, 50 days?! I'm actually terrified of my first proper period after I come off the pill. I went on it originally at 17 because my periods were so heavy and painful they made me vomit and pass out :/ is this your first? My daughter wasn't planned and so TTC is a whole new world for me :)

OP posts:
MouseLove · 08/12/2016 08:46

Yes I'm TTC my first baby. I've been with my DH for 13 years so it's all a bit "is this really happening, are we really making our dream come true" but I'm so happy just to be at this stage. So if it takes longer, it will all be worth it. X
