Period stops and starts - anyone else get this?

My period is (in this order): 1 day of medium flow, 1 day of heavy flow, 1 day of light flow (nothing for most of day), 1 day of medium flow then sometimes a day of light/spotting. I also get at least 2 days of spotting before period.

Does anyone else get anything like this?

Sounds like a normal period to me. Sometimes you can get a varied flow throughout. I would expect that the spotting you're experiencing for the 2 days before is a light period while your body is gearing up. You get an initial day and then another try. If it gets weirdly heavy or long, speak to your GP. X

That's interesting, I never looked at it like that. I ovulate on cd12 so that would make sense if the spotting is cd1 and I actually ovulate on cd14...

Just chiming in to say I have this issue and am on the hunt for answers myself! You might find that temping sheds some light on what's going on. I've been trying it for the last 3 months but haven't reached any conclusions. I tend to have a light period for a couple of days, followed by 5 days of literally nothing, and then 4-5 days of a heavy period followed by a few days spotting at the end.

I'm not sure that my pattern is ok, but it sounds more pronounced than yours. I've mentioned it to the GP, who didn't think it had significance or was worth worrying about until I stressed the fact that the whole thing can go on for more than 10 days. She referred me for an ultrasound, which found nothing concerning.

I count the first day as CD1, which gives me a late ovulation day of around CD17-19.

I have temped and my temp doesn't drop until full flow starts. Normally the morning before it starts.

Are you sure your light period isn't spotting? When does your temp drop?

Thanks Alibaba. I've looked over my charts again, and over the last 5 months, with one exception, there is a very long drop that finally reaches its nadir before the heavy days. So maybe you're right! If those first days are 'spotting', though, it's more blood than what I've read spotting should be. Hmmm.
