Thread 21 TTC #1 - The one where all our cycles went haywire but we DID NOT GIVE UP

Calling all clomid-ers, OPK-ers, temp-ers and anyone else on the TTC Bus.

We are long past cervix prodding (in fact we know where it is at any given time just by closing our eyes) and we have ditched the Gregorian calendar in favour of the TTC Cycle Day calendar. We don't do baby dust, or baby-dancing, we just keep legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX) We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate, but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face. You get kwick-cake if you behave, and talked down from the ledge when you need it.

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share....

Kwick Indeed, each cycle we are all one step closer. I really hope the next one is the winner for you.

So this morning we received some bad news about DH, he has the BRCA2 gene (breast and ovary cancer familial susceptibility) which means more frequent tests for him (his DM currently has terminal brain cancer) but also means 50% chance of it being passed down to our child. Its not terrible news, and I'm not too cut up about it - for all we know either of us could be carriers for all sorts of things - but it does mean we get to have free IVF for one child, without having to wait for three years. I think I don't want it, as then I would feel bad if we had a second child that did have it, but I know I'll feel awful if our child does have it - especially if its a girl.

FXSkip sorry to hear your bad news lovely. If IVF is a free option, and you feel up to it, I would take it but only if ttc takes you much longer than before. Hopefully you'll be upduffed soon enough and won't need it. Hope you're ok

Oh fxskip that's hard. My DH's dad got tested as his sis has the gene, and if he'd been a carrier then DH and his siblings would all have been tested. Luckily FIL didn't have it so no need for DH but we discussed what we'd do an agreed not to have ivf for same reasons as you've said. It's only 50:50 and much less of an issue for boys, so really only 25% chance. Good to have the ivf option if you change your mind though.

It was meant to be my last AF before ttc but still not sure whether to start trying this month or next. As AF was late, if I conceived this month the due date would be 2 weeks after DH gets back to the UK. Can't decide if that's cutting it too fine or not! Me and siblings were all born early, but for specific reasons (they are twins, I was ill) so can't base anything on that. I just want to get started finally after over a year of postponing and delaying!

I'm cd 12 at the moment and waiting for positive opk, does it usually have a faint line then get darker the closer you are to ovulation? I'm new to this and at the moment there's no sign of anything!

Here's my chart. Got my crosshairs today Officially in the tww but realistically only got a week left as my LP is 10 days.

Harriet if it was me I'd ttc! The likelihood of it happening are slim but if it does you'll be happy and will figure it out I'm sure.

Miranda it can go either way really. As it's your first month don't worry too much, whatever happens it'll be a learning curve. Last cycle mine gradually got darker over 4 days but this cycle I went from basically nothing the night before to positive cd13 at 4pm. If you do one every afternoon you shouldn't miss your surge. Keep an eye on your CM too! (I've attached my opks this month for you to see)

Sorry about your worrying news skip Do they offer IVF to screen out this gene? That's amazing they can do that. Would it be an option for you to pay for IVF for another, so you can rule it out again?

harriet if you did get pregnant this month, could your DH possibly come home a bit early from this trip? How long will he be away for? I'm curious what he does!

miranda sometimes I get a build up and sometimes it goes from nothing to a blazing positive. Keep doing them regularly, hope it comes soon. I'm okay thanks, 10DPO today. Just feel a bit 'meh' about it all really, I know I'll be getting my period this weekend. I don't really feel like it's ever going to happen, to be honest.

london he definitely couldn't change the dates - bit outing but he's a classical musician (soloist) and will be on tour on the other side of the world for a week. Dates were fixed 6 months ago so can't be changed and it's an amazing opportunity for him that I'd hate him to miss. His concerts in the autumn are all UK so we just need to avoid that one week!

Jam sorry you're feeling so down. It will happen! I should share this good news story from FF. Someone found out her DH had 1% morphology and fell pregnant 3 weeks later. I think I told you this before but it sadly ended in a chemical. The next cycle they did exactly what had worked for them in the previous cycle. They cleared out OH's pipes 2-3 days before her positive OPK, and the night of her positive OPK they had just ONE well timed BD. In her words, she then finished 5-6 times after! Yesterday she tested at 17dpo (too scared to test early after her chemical) and got 2-3 weeks on a clearblue. She had only used this plan/method the 2 cycles she fell pregnant back to back. They'd been ttc for at least 15 months. Knowledge is power and all that so I hope it helps you.

Jam - I felt exactly like you're saying you do now about a week and a half ago - was utterly convinced there was something wrong with me and that it would never happen for me. The BFP came like a bolt from the blue. It can and will happen for you too.

Alexia you lovely person! Here is my chart. I will still temp until 14/15 dpo out of interest but will stop after that so that I don't go too crazy. It's scary to think about chemicals so I am trying not to although I'm well aware of the stats. Your comment on my line is reassuring so thank you :) Great that you have your cross hairs and your OPKs look fab too. Interestingly this cycle was the only one where I got an actual +ve OPK when I ovulated.

harriet your DH has such a cool job. Can see now why you want to be careful with timings. I would be the same as alexia though and get started right away - I don't have much patience!

Sorry to hear your news fxskip. Free IVF sounds interesting but I'm sure you won't even need it. Nice to have as a back up though without the 3 year wait.

music don't go anywhere please! I mean - go and graduate - but please stick around too! We need all the cheering. I've got lots of plans on the rest of the week so yeah will be quite distracted. AF due Saturday and I've got brunch planned for two lovely friends.

Jam I think it's definitely worth a try next cycle (if this cycle's bust). Yeh it's not quite like here is it. If you need something answered just post in 'waiting to test' as it's most active. There are some lovely ladies on there though. Might take a little while to get comfy and find a nice buddy group.

That's interesting about your opks isn't it. I think you were O'ing previously but this was most likely a superior egg and you caught it. Wahoo!

Forgot to say thanks for sharing your chart Music. Looks like your O-2 BD has done the trick. Gives me hope for this cycle! Also agree re. stopping temping as it's not very reliable in pregnancy and will only cause you anxiety over every dip etc.

Firstly, a massive congratulations Music! Very excited for you. This thread has come alive recently with all the BFPs and I'm pretty sure we're onto something good here so good luck for anyone else nearing the end of their cycle. Looks like we'll be needing that grad thread for sure!

Harriet - you are not broken! Stock up on the cheapies from amazon for future, you get quite a lot of them and they are good for confirming one way or another. Sorry to hear the witch got you, but well done extending your luteal phase. It's amazing what something as simple as vitamins can do for our bodies.

EJ - no one's ever asked me if I'm trying for a baby. I don't think I've ever heard that said to anyone, it's a very rude and personal thing to ask. I wouldn't even dignify them with a response if I was you - even if they are close work colleagues.

Pug - sorry about AF , are you feeling any better today?

Skip - I hope you're okay, news like that always hits home a bit but if I was you, I'd cross that bridge when I came to it. Hopefully your DH and children will never have to suffer like your MIL - really sorry to hear about her btw.

Miranda - yes they can work like that, some people don't get a darkening line though and miss it entirely. I would use an opk every day when you're just starting out, try and pinpoint when your ovulation day is and then next cycle cut back on the amount you use. Otherwise you'll spend a small fortune. You can always post pics of them if you are unsure but you are looking for the line to be darker than the control line.

Also, just tried Preseed for the first time - was quite pleasant actually. Only used a tiny amount based on advice given a little while ago, and that was more than enough. I dread to think what it would have been like if I'd used the amount in the instructions. Didn't someone mention a "waterslide" before?

Pmsl at the waterslide. I dont seem to get much ewcm so next cycle i was thinking i will get some preseed ( assuming i dont get my fairytale xmas bfp )

Managed to get a dtd session in last night but dh out tonight so that may be our one and only try of the cycle as my opk was positive yesterday.
