Hi, I have been on 3 different kinds of birth control (pill, implant then patch) in 5 years, myself and my fiancé have decided to ttc our 1st last month, just wondering how long it has taken people to get pregnant after birth control?

Its different for everyone, some people fall pregnant straight away and for others it takes anywhere from a few months to a year or more.

I was on the pill for 10 years, I came off in July and just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant Smile

I had been on the combined pill for over a decade, came off it and had a withdrawal bleed- never had a proper period after that as I had conceived.

Pregnancy number 2 was similar- stopped the pill, got withdrawal bleed and pregnant before period came back. unfortunately that pregnancy ended in miscarriage.

I realise that I have been very lucky and it can vary widely between different women.

One thing I'd say is that it does not take months for the "hormones to leave your system"- once you stop they're very quickly out of your system.

That's why women can fall pregnant while taking the pill- because they've not been taking it properly e.g. forgetting for a couple of days- by which point, the hormone level has fallen and they may have ovulated. et voila.

Good luck with TTC!
