I am no expert but this is what I do.

I bought a digital thermometer with 2 decimal places (minimum one is needed)

Initially I printed out a blank chart from the internet and filled it out daily. Now I record my temps in the online tool (see chart spotters thread)

You need to take your temp every morning at the same time before you get out of bed. I stick mine under the tongue. You can do it vaginally but you need to be consistent.

There are different things that can affect it eg. alcohol, getting up later etc. The idea is that you see a rise after you have OVd.

fertilityfriend.com is a good free website you get a free trial of being a VIP memeber, then you can decide if you wwant to sign up (cheap!) or drop down to a free basic member.....its great cos it takes you on a mini course!! I learnt loads.

GOOD LUCKJEDDAH

So initially i'll need to chart to see where my fertile days are (before temp rises), then next time BD before that day.......correct?

Jeddah, going to have a look @ website now Thanks for the help.

Charting is really a useful to guide to tell you when you have ovulated not to predict it. Over time once you have a few charts you may see a pattern emerge eg. OV on day 15
Then you can use other things to predict fertile days to confirm whether the charting is right. So if you think you OV on day 15 for example you could use an OPK a couple of days before to see when your peak days are.

malaleche · 03/02/2007 16:41

Hi, already sent this but it hasnt appeared...
google 'natural family planning' and you'll get among other things: 'billings ovulation method' and 'couple to couple league'
I used the info on those sites.
You have to do it every day or you won't see a pattern emerge
ggod luck

just to add a spanner in the works... just saw my fertility consultant and he says temping is a load of pants.......

I think I have problems with a short luteal phase and he says this does not exist!!!!!!!! as it is the person wrongly predicting OV. When I said that I had been temping for a long time......he said it is not a reliable way to see if we are ov!!!!!!!

The Toni Weschler book explains charting well.

Here are some downloadable charts

How to chart

babylove123 · 03/02/2007 19:25

Hey, thanks for these links and ideas

Dont worry Jeddah, medical ppl dont tend to believe in non - medical ways.......i've had my dp on these herbal pills to increase his sperm count and mobility and it appears to be working.......he wont leave me alone!!!! Doc doesnt believe in any such thing tho! Lol, i am evil tho as im technically 2 days late and wont do "anything" until af comes......i hope she doesnt mind!

babylove123 you are 2 days late!!!!!!!!!!

dare I mention the T word?

totsy · 04/02/2007 10:09

I found that doing all that stuff made my cycle go mental even stopped ovulating for 3 months. So sacked it off and either had sex daily or if working late got dh to give me a 'sample' and used a long pippete to squirt it up! (this was his idea cos he more desperate at the time than me) and got pregnant! Worth a go I think although I realise it sounds quite desperate also!!!
so long as you are having periods and you know he's producing sperm there's going to be a time when its going to work.

babylove123 · 04/02/2007 18:06

Jeddah, have tested but neg. Have a feeling my bodies not working properly again. Have a poss kidney problem and i think the stress of it has caused me not to ov again......

Got docs 2morro

Totsy, im going to buy the turkey baster and do it that way too, BD is v painful to me and i've convinced DP to let me do that!

totsy .. am curious. What made you think of pipetting? A great solution to the problem you had. where didi you get your pipette from? And did her just catch the sperm in a jar? sorry if too intimate questions.

sadmner · 04/02/2007 19:37

how long does sperm last in a jar?

greedyforbabies · 04/02/2007 21:35

i am sure it only lasts 2 hours or so doesn't it.

Fingerscrossed2007 · 05/02/2007 11:26

Didint realise sperm lasted as long as two hours?

Totsy we need you back here to give us some more info!!!

Babylove - I read on another thread that a turkey baster can be too big. ie there is not always enough sperm volume to be sucked up. A syringe(no needle) or pipette would be better accordign to ther threads.

greedyforbabies · 05/02/2007 14:22

there is another MNer around who artificially inseminates and she has always quoted 2 hours and i am sure she must know her stuff

babylove123 · 06/02/2007 21:30

Fingers, thanks for the note on the size, will see wot i can do

That's so sad. "Other people say you're spoilt if you get eveyrthing you want. But it's not what I want, it's what my mum wants."

caffeinequeen · 06/02/2007 21:33

Sorry, totally wrong thread

babylove123 · 08/02/2007 20:08
