Need a bit of advice about where to go next please.

So bit of background, I have 1 ds who is 4, before him I had 1 mmc at around 8-9 weeks.

Since him I have had 5 miscarriages in the space of trying over the last 2 years, Most of these happened around 6-7 weeks so fairly early on but still devastating to me all the same.

I thought I was pg again this week (last mmc was last month) had all the usual symptoms (spotting, tingly breasts and the headache which is a dead giveaway for me) I was trying to leave it as late as possible to take a test so I didn't get my hopes up again and suddenly out of nowhere I get the worst cramps possible, I never ever suffer with periods only when I've had a mc i get these cramps so Im thinking i possibly was pregnant but obviously it's happened again.

I'm 36 and just basically wondering where do I go from here, I've read about recurring mc clinics but what exactly do they do at them? will I be offered fertility drugs? Im not sure what to expect and its a bit of a minefield reading on the internet. thanks

Have you been to the doctors at all? You are entitled to investigations on the nhs after 3 miscarriages. The gp will run a suite of basic tests (thyroid, clotting problems etc) then if nothing shows refer you on to a specialist who then does further tests. I started this process but then got pregnancy again and it stuck (dd now 9 weeks). The antenatal consultant said to me I was prob too fertile and implanting eggs I shouldn't and then rejecting them early on (all mine where 5-7 weeks).

As an aside have you tried taking low dose aspirin and vitamin d? Both are both trying if you are having repeated miscarriages whilst you are waiting to be tested (pls don't take this as medical advice tho - ask ur gp if in any doubt over the aspirin.

Your DP should be checked too - it might be male factor related.

Oh and the other thing the gp will test is your hormones. Progesterone deficiency very common cause of repeat miscarriages. You can often tell if you are deficient youself too if you have a short luteal phase (the time between ovulation and your period starting).

pps just to clarify grandma ref is phrase and you are not at all old! Realised after I typed it came across wrong! In fact it's good you are only 36 as gives you time to sort this and stay positive - if you can have one dc you can have another x

Ive not been the my dr much as hes not the greatest with being sympathetic at all but i'm getting to the point where I think its just not going to happen naturally, and short of giving up i just wanted an idea of what would be in store for me if I went to see them. Ive also read the thing about aspirin quite a few times now and wondering if I should start taking it anyway?

I've also heard of the short phase but never understood what it meant, Mine is usually around 12-14 days? is that classed as short?

Don't think 12-14 days is short - think that's normal. I'm not a dr so couldn't say about the aspirin but it seems to have worked for some women. Make sure it's only the tiny dose tho if you do.

Change your dr! They should be sympathetic - miscarriages are horrible and traumatic, even if early on. The gp tests are v quick and easy (just a couple of blood tests) so def worth doing to rule out any easily found cause.
