Is it best to have sex on the day you are due to ovulate or the day before or after? I was going to try the day before and the day after but something is telling me I should do it on the day. What do you think?

Why not try all three just to be sure??

littledetails · 01/02/2007 18:10

Isnt there a danger of them not being strong swimmers if you do it too often?!

Anyone? Any advice?

Before. After is too late. Start five days before ovulation and keep going. Peak day for successful conception is two days before. But the more sex the better!

More is more when it comes to conception.

Oh, and they are made to order, so they don't get tired!

I read somewhere (prob on MN) that it would take six 'unloadings' in fairly quick sucession to empty all the reserves, and they are replenished fairly quickly afterwards too - so stop worrying and start bd-ing!

feedmenow · 01/02/2007 20:05

There you are! 2 people saying the more the better! But remember that not everyone ovulates day 14. Loads of people on here have found that they've had most success when they've had sex pretty much every day or every other day from about day 10 of cycle to day 18+. So have fun and good luck!

Wow! Thanks for that. I best get me hubby off the sofa and we best get jiggy with it!!!!!

Just be absolutely certain ensure you have sex on every day ending in a "y" .
Seriously, you basically got a 3 day window for ov, so having sex every other day around when you expect to ov should do the trick!

motherinferior · 01/02/2007 20:55

Ah, two days before...er yes, that would be DD1, then. Blasted early ovulation

Isa11 · 01/02/2007 21:40

All three days, definitely. Better to have slightly less sperm at the right time, than a lot of sperm at the wrong time! And, as mentioned further down, it takes a lot of 'unloadings' to cause a problem. If you do it just once a day on those three days, there should be no problem.
We conceived dd1, at a (long lost) time when we were doing it two or more times a day! So just go for it. Good luck.

MI, that's not due to early ovulation, that's due to having sex at your most fertile time
And there is plenty of evidence to show that women naturally feel more aroused when they are most fertile.
Seriously, doing it after ovulation is no good. It has to be before. But if you don't know when you ovulate, then doing it as much as possible from around six days before to a day or so afterwards should cover all bases.

Aloha · 01/02/2007 22:21

The best 'three days' are BEFORE ovulation. Honestly!

Anisse · 01/02/2007 22:31

Second that one about three days before ovulation

I am on #4 working on that theory

fennel · 02/02/2007 11:13

we just did it every other day for the more fertile fortnight of the month, each time. It seemed to work. easier than trying to work out which single day to try.
