Question about urine sample for Pregnancy test

Eulalia · 09/06/2004 13:29

I am putting in a sample tomorrow morning to the doctors surgery for a test as it will be 45 days since my last period. I have been on the mini-pill since this last period and this is what the instructions on the packet said I had to do.

I read somewhere that you should use a sample from early in the morning but not sure if its the first or second urine sample of the day, and should it be mid-stream (sounds a bit messy to me).

Reeeeeeally hoping it is negative .... just couldn't cope with a baby. I was late with the pill 2 times, first time I realised but 2nd time it may have been a bit dodgy....

My periods have been irregular since they returned last Oct so I am hoping thats all it is - also this pill can make them irregular as well.

(((fingers crossed))))

Eulalia

not sure about the urine question, sorry, but I've been on the minipill and spent fortune on pregnancy tests over that time, as my periods could be anything from 2 to 6-7 weeks. (which is why I stopped it, I just hated the irregularity, all the time worrying somthing might be wrong or might be pregnant)

I hope you get the result you want!! Good luck

It only needs to be mid-stream if they're checking for infection.First sample will have more "concentrated" hormone level so more accurate for pregnancy testing.
I think it's quite common not to see periods when taking the minipill.HTH.

Why not do a home test? they are just as accurate.

Eulalia · 09/06/2004 14:19

I am too mean for a home test , seriously though I can't afford it at the moment and I can drop a sample into the doctors tomorrow and get a result the same day.

Thanks for the advice. I will let you know the outcome !!!

Good lord, Eulalia, I was wondering how you were.
I too have been on the mini pill (preferred choice for bfeeders, eh? )
and thought it was pretty safe.
Best of luck

Eulalia · 10/06/2004 13:09

Hi jasper - it's been a long time, hope you are well. I've to phone at 2pm so only 50 mins to go....

(tum tum) just coming on here to distract myself. Sure it will be negative though as I've not had any symptoms ...but that may not mean anything....

OK will shut up now and go away!

Eulalia - Good luck.... I'll stay tuned for the result posted at 2.02pm. I'll give you time to tell your DH ....

Eulalia · 10/06/2004 13:22

...still here... dh doesn't even know! I will tell him face to face anyway like I did the last two times... but of course there won't be anything to tell him... God I must go and do something... I know the dishes!

ooh eek Eulalia, fingers crossed for you...am sitting here with an 11 day old mini pill babe in arms

Toothache · 10/06/2004 14:29

WELL??

Eulalia · 10/06/2004 14:42

Sorry for the delay - was told to phone back at 2.30.

It is negative - hooray!

However not sure what to do next - the receptionist is checking with the doctor to see if I should carry on with the pill and if I should put in another sample and will phone me back. I assume it would have shown up as a definate negative at this stage (6.5 weeks since last period) but am not sure. Any thoughts?

It is possible to get a false negative. My friend had 2 at 10wks.... and didn't do another one until she was 16wks pg... then it was positive!

But if you don't feel pg then the odds are your're not.

Eulalia · 10/06/2004 14:45

Oh and congratulations on your new baby Skara
